I was picking up a couple of guns I had ordered online at a local pawnshop, and while they were doing the FFL transfer I was killing time looking at their gun rack. Like I needed something else after just buying 5 guns for the boys for Xmas...

An oddball caught my eye. Old wood handguard looked remarkably like a commie type AK or PSL, wood buttstock. It was a large caliber semi-auto with external mag- I asked the owner what it was. He told me it was a "Hesse"...I've looked all over online and can't find out much about Hesse Arms. It was a .308- an old gun- decent shape, but definitely old.

Anything "quality" or collectible enough about this make to investigate further, and if so, is there a reference where I could try to identify this gun? He was asking 6 bills for it- but you know pawn shop pricing...

    Thanks for any help...

Ok first, I gotta go ahead with the "OH BOYYYYYYYYY! HERE WE GO! LET THE SHIT HIT THE FAN!!!!!!!!!! YEEHAH!!!!! LMFAO!!"

ok now that that's out of the way, forget the plague. Avoid that brand name like Ebola and Hanta. They've recently been rebranded as a new company and I forget the name. I'm sure someone will chime in.

They are NOTORIOUSLY low in quality to the point they are DANGEROUS firearms to own. Weak receivers, a lot untreated, soft steel, etc you name it. The guy who owned the company, from what I can tell, loved to cut corners right up to the point some of his rifles were BLOWING UP!

I think that's really all there is to say about the brand. I'm fairly sure someone else is going to chime in with some grizzly details.

    HA!

Maybe he should have paid ME $600 to get rid of it for him!

    THANKS A LOT, guys...

Guess that's why I've never heard of 'em...

RUN THE F--- AWAY AS FAST AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!!!

The are the antithesis of "quality" and "collectible" unless you are in to collecting shiite or examples of extremely poor workmanship/QC/etc.

So, it's the "two bagger" of the rifle community?

Kinda like the girls we'd sneak up the side stairs of the fraternity house at 3:00 a.m. so nobody would see them...

    Hi Guys and Gals

This is Neil with Red X Arms. I registered to respond to the post of Ronin. I wanted to let you know we are not in any way owned or operated by the people at hesse, vulcan or blackthorne, or any other similar company. If you look at our website you will see vast differences in products.

We use quality parts like CMT, Mossberg, RRA etc... in our builds. We also manufacture in house some parts on our CNC equipment. Examples of parts we make are Free Float Tubes, Muzzle Brakes, Crush Washers, Gas Blocks, different pins, etc...

If you look you can see the difference in products.

We are a AR15 only manufacturer located in Midwest MN, Near Alexandria.

run away from hesse, vulcan and blackthorne, they are gonna need to change their name again, 3 time in less than 10 years says alot about the garbage and nonexistant customer support this company has. I cannot believe they are still in biz after all these years of ripping people of.
    hope this helps.

Re: Anyone familiar with "Hesse Arms"?

vulcan, hesse and blackthorne---all the same and all here in the frozen land of MN. They are at the gunshows with some regularity.

Absolute garbage stuff. Fit and finish is horrible on every piece I have ever looked at. I do know some guys who have had their stuff. Some worked, some didn't........a very, very risky purchase

IDK anything about red x arms

Re: Anyone familiar with "Hesse Arms"?

Once upon a time I had an HBAR 20" a2 that said Hesse on it. It was fine, I never had any issues with it and it shot very well. However, it was a heavy pig, and so I traded it on a .44 magnum blackhawk, lol. Practicality was not my thing as a young man, lol.

I would not buy one again just because i'm confident I got lucky the first time, and I don't like to taunt fate. Besides, now having had an LMT i'm spoiled on the cheap shit.

Hesse=Blackthorn=Vulcan=Vector=Raptor(IIRC)=one or two other short-lived aliases. Don't give any money to this crew, they are not honest and lots of people have gotten screwed on their deals. I'm thankful i'm not one of them.

Good to get some clarification and hear of a new company.

Glad to hear you aren't affiliated with Hesse or Blackthorne. there are not to be trusted..

Also glad to hear that you use parts from reputable manufacturers..

so i stand corrected.. and after i did more research neil i found your post on another forum where they affiliated redxarms with blackthorne/hesse.. and you corrected them..

    so i stand corrected..

Re: Anyone familiar with "Hesse Arms"?

Had a Hesse lower that the holes were in the right place and the screw holes were where they were supposed to be. Married up to the LR-308 upper that I had at the time. It worked just fine.

That said, it wasn't a Hesse rifle, just the lower receiver.

I own a Vector built AK, and it is very high quality, and more costly though too! I've put many rounds through it plinking mostly. Much better than a Romanian. I am pretty sure Vector is not related to Hesse, if it were I would have thought twice (because of all the bad things I've heard, not any first hand experience). I have heard that Vulcan was the same company too.
