I have a Mk4-16X with a duplex reticule. I called for a price quote for a reticule swap and was verbally quoted $170 + sales tax (Ohio 7%).

Ouch!
That's about 182 bones for a new grid.

I have not had one factory swapped in a LONG time and the last ones I had Premier do it. Does this price sound correct?

For a factory Mil Dot reticle change that price is about right. Changing to a Mil Dot does require a lot more work than say a duplex. Leupold custom shop charges around $60 for a standard reticle; duplex, crosshair, and so on, but around $160-$180 for a Mil Dot or TMR reticle change. $170 seems in the ball park for you though.

? why, aren't most glass etched now days, your replacing a lens - or am i wrong

Re: Anyone get a Leupold mil-dot reticule swap lately?

Its not just the process of changing the reticle, its the making of the reticle and the quality control that goes into it. A mil dot or TMR reticle needs to have exact spacing to meet standards or else it would not function for ranging. To have it exactly spaced at 1 Mil Rad each takes more precision and that carrys most of the higher price tag.

I had my MK4 M1 10X that i bought 20 years ago changed over to the TMR reticle last year. It cost me the total $174.19. Included with the reticle the paperwork said it replaced the eyepiece assembly. I'd call Leupold before sending it in. They asked me for my serial number to verify if it was possible for the switch. They did a good job.
