Hello to the hide. This is my first post, and I will try to be as light on this subject as I can. I will leave out all names and company, they didn't seem to be too concerned with the situation anyways so I'm just venting.
To start off I'm very budget minded, so buying a chassis took a bit of mental power to drop that kind of change in the first place. I have owned, and still do several of the Savage Axis heavy barreled rifles. With hand loads and a little time to get the terrible stock trigger down to two pounds, they have all shoot .3-.4s consistantly. That's good dollar per horspower in my world when dealing with under $250 rifles. So I thought why not go all out on a budget rifle.
The build. I started off with a 308 action I had $35 in after the rest was sold off, the heavy barrel being the biggest contributor. I've always love the 7s, just not the all to common belted rem mag, so I decided on the 7/300 wsm. Found an 8 twist lilja 3 grove blank for $200, and a reamer/hs gauge for about the same. I do all of my own stunts as I'm a machinist of 14 years now.
I had it set in me head I was going to drop the coin on a chassis for once. So a year ago I ordered a chassis. These are a bit limited for this platform by the way, and I understand why. Moving on. First chassis comes in with the safey tang area machined into the buffertube well. A couple calls and being talked to like an infant the said they would build me a "custom chassis" as all the rest on the shelf looked exactly the same. The second time it shows up with two different finishes and not grip. After another call and being talked down to they agreed to fix that. The third time seemed to be the charm, minus the greasy prints all over it out of spite I assume. Oh well, bit my tounge and went on.
Fast forward a year to last night. I finally have the action assembled and ready to start load work minus finishing the brake. I throw my floater swfa on it to start getting the stock fitted. Break all the hardware loose and it feels like everything has blue locktite, a bit odd but of well. After I get all the hardware out it's apparent the hardware was ran into the bead blasted holes...still full of media.
Am I the only person that has had a bad experience with a claimed top notch chassis company? I have never heard or read a bad word edge wise about them, which is what sealed my decision. Anyway, that has been resolved with a trip to the hardware store and a few minutes chasing all threaded holes. I hope to get the brake done in the next week or so so I can work up some loads and HOPEfully enjoy being around this thing for once.
