Anyone have a source for FN SPR action screws?

This may be too WECSOG for you but I've gone to Fastenal and local hardware stores in the big bolt drawer units and found suitable screws for a couple of my rifles. Different style allen heads and the like. You may have to grind/file them to length but I haven't had an issue in 7 years or so using these. YMMV.

Edit: quick search turned up 1/4x32 as the size. Hope this helps.

Yeah, im going to start exploring alternaitives

I have to cut action screws shorter about half the time when working with M700s or clones. I took a piece of thin 4140 sheet steel, drilled & tapped a hole for 1/4-28 thread. When I need to shorten a screw, I thread it through this plate, cut it off with a Dremel cut-off wheel or grind it shorter on my disc/belt combo sander, holding it by this plate. When you back the shortened screw out, the threads in the plate clean up buggered threads from cutting/grinding, and I'm good to go.

Midwest Gun Works does have the correct M-70 screws in stock. There are numerous M-70 screws, so picking the right one from the website can be a gamble without the correct part number. FN SPRs (PBRs and TSRs) share the same screws and part numbers as the certain M-70s. Search and/or ask for the Winchester part number:

The rear action screw for all SPRs is U354912850. FN part number is 62911-01.
The front action screws for the DBM/TBM is U354912840. FN part number is 62910-01.
The front action screws for hinged floor plate models is: U354912830. FN part number is 61904-01

Cool thing about MGW's schematics is when you click on the red number on the schematic, all the possible versions of that part come up. Then you order the one you want from the list, if it is in stock.

Hope this helps.

ACE hardware? I quit trying to get the "correct" screw. I buy button head allens in the correct pitch and trim them to length. Sometimes I also have to file down the edge of the head for clearance as well. Always works though. :)

It's discontinued on their website, anywhere else you think I might be able to find this? I stripped my rear action screw today.

Looking at what MGW does have, I would at least try the U354912910: its a hex head, almost as long but stainless. Second choice would be the U354912690, the Quadrex head might take square drive, its slightly longer and likely blued. At least these would get you going again.

Thank you. I’ll give it a shot. I’ve been hunting all over online. Only other thing I could think of doing is re-thread to 1/4-28, which there is a lot more options for
