Anyone know anything about Pensylvania?

Re: Anyone know anything about Pensylvania?

Penn is an "old time" shooting state, I've been there many times, they love their guns, and have a large number of Really Good Gun Smiths in the state. Just like in most places when you get in the "big cities", the crime is high, the liberals love welfare, and the liberals hate your guns, however; it is just the opposite when your "in the country".

Re: Anyone know anything about Pensylvania?

In my travels I have found the region west of about York, PA to be very "low income" until you get close to Pittsburgh itself which as a metro area would of course have some pockets of wealth.
As for guns and sporting - give it time and it wil join the rest of the NorthEast in becoming another liberal shithole. Sure places like Potter County are awesome and you couldnever envision what I am saying - but figure out how to make income living in Potter county?

Do your research line up a NON-municipal job and plan accordingly. I believe they were havng some siginificant state funding issues last year I do not know if those have been resolved but realize when a state goes broke - they find the money to survive on the backs of those people working....

Good Luck.

If you're talking about Rockview Prison... that's where the child molesters go... just saying. Haha its also the only prison in PA that does executions (fun fact)

Re: Anyone know anything about Pensylvania?

i live nw of pittsburgh. reade range (1000 yds) 3 hours, solon sportsman (600 yards) 1:45, greensburg sportman (500 yards) 1:45, camp perry is 3 hours, alliance rifle (1000 yards) 1:45, white horse (1000 yards) 2 hours. all with pits. lots of clubs with 100, 200, or 300 yards. ccw permits are by state law "shall issue" but pittsburgh and philadelphia (birthplace of freedom???) dispute that. i can shoot hp several times a month,f class 4 times a month from april to november. great place for the mr/lr shooter.

Re: Anyone know anything about Pensylvania?

SIG,
Went there in 1994 to do some work on a switchgear throw over scheme, plc programming.
Drove in the side entrance, stopped at the gaurd house, alarm goes off, gates close.
2 inmates not accounted for on the work crew.
If you're outside, then you're outside.
If you're ( me ) inside, then guess what.......free meals and lodging.
Stewed badger leaves a bit to be desired.
Had a female gaurd stripping for the inmates nightly after lockdown. Darnedest thing..................

Re: Anyone know anything about Pensylvania?

I can tell you all you need to know about Pennsylvania. Wallace Berry has written on his tombstone that I WOULD RATHER BE HERE THAN IN PENNSYLVANIA. I believe that sums it up pretty well.

Re: Anyone know anything about Pensylvania?

I was born in Sewickley, PA and raise in West Chester, PA. I now live in Texas and have no reason to go back, so I won't. When I lived there it was corn fields and farms. That has all been replaced by the suburbs and liberism. It's beautiful state in places, like the country. Good luck as the two large cities drive the political culture of the state and it ain't going to be conservative like it used to be.

Re: Anyone know anything about Pensylvania?

I have lived just outside of Pittsburgh for my entire life, albeit only 19 years so I can't tell you too much about Jobs and such, except that everyone I know has a job, but that's probably not saying much.

As for the gun aspect of everything, it seems that either people love their guns or hate guns and it seems that more and more people around are on the hates guns side of things.

But as was said before, there are quite a few places, depending on how far you are from the city and how far you're willing to drive, where you can shoot longer range.

and to add to the list, Thunder Valley Precision in Ohio is about 2h30min away and has steel out to a mile.

Also would like to add that it seems like most people are into the hunting aspect of shooting if they like guns, not so many people into long range precision/tactical shooting that I know of.

I believe I will more than likely be moving to another state such as Ohio or out west/midwest after I'mm done with college and everything.

Re: Anyone know anything about Pensylvania?

Was at the Precison and Carbine match in New Holland, PA - plenty of shooters for both and Freddie runs fun matches. Moved here from CA. I love PA. The creeping liberalism mentioned is endemic of the country. Even Texas.

Nowhere is perfect, but everything I want to do I can do here.

Re: Anyone know anything about Pensylvania?

6th generation native of the York area, no complaints, we're doing reasonably well economically, close to a shit ton of stuff, very 2A friendly, Class 3 friendly, great shooting opportunities with Reade, Mifflin County, New Holland, Mayberry GPA all at less than 3 hours away.
Never noticed a crowd, I am 25 minutes to Baltimore, 40 to Harrisburg, 80 to DC and I don't hear anything at night but crickets.
Having lived throughout the midwest, southeast and northeast I can say that I haven't noticed the weather being any hotter here than my other stops, summer heat is summer heat.

Re: Anyone know anything about Pensylvania?

I'm about 40 miles out of pittsburgh and it's plenty gun friendly here, at least 8 clubs within 30 min drive, 1.5million acres of public game lands if I remember correctly. Just don't plan on living in the city..

Re: Anyone know anything about Pensylvania?

There are numerous place to go put some rounds down range here in my area. Lots of good people here too. I have not noticed any form of negative "gun grabber" mentality recently, but it wouldn't matter anyway...we have um..yeah..we have the Amish Mafia here...so yeah were good to go...haha
