I just got a manners t5a after much debate. i'm left handed and these were made for right hand shooters. I am going to take a file and smooth out the ridge on the left side of the grip that a right handed shooters thumb rests on. my question is what can I use to add a little to that side to fill in the contours? will the old bondo grip trick work here or is there something else out there that will work better?

You can always send it back home and we will get it taken care of for you. On something like this we usally like to get back in house, it would come back to you with a fresh coat of paint and you wont be able to tell that we modifies it. If you want to try to do it your self, the main thing on a modification like this is to make sure you don't go to far and get through the shell. The shell is very thick in that area so you should be fine. If you do go through it will need to be back cut and glassed in. I would take down a little at a time with 80 grit till you get where you want and it fits your hand. I would then wipe with marinetex let dry, then sand smooth with with 320, then use a little filler to finish. If you run into any issues just give me buzz. Thank you
