Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

Re: Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

Never shot or been a round a 6br, so take this for what it's worth. Most of the posts I've seen about the BR is that it is finicky to feed and so, it doesn't do well in a Tac rig.

Someone with a little 6BR experience should give you a little more info.

Re: Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

Main issue seems to be having the short 6BR cartridge feed reliably through the magazines. I heard and seen pictures of AICS mags that have been modified to feed. But when there are other cartridges that feed just fine out of stock mags and have better performance to boot, there's not much demand for a 6BR tac rig (though the 6BR is an excellent little cartridge).

Re: Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

Thanks you guys ...got a PM once from a guy that had the new plastic AI 223 mags and made them work as well ...

ever heard of GA precision, Beenland or APA ever making one ?

I love 6br's about the same #'s as my 243's and lot better barrel life

Re: Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

They can work very well with aics 223 mags. Grind the feedlips open to 0.400, it'll feed like a champ. It'll only be able to hold 7 rounds though.

Re: Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

Just open them up to 0.400. You'll also need to file a bit inside of the magazine to allow more rounds to be loaded. The mag narrows toward the top to promote the center feed. I don't have any pictures but it will become clear once you start working with it. Take your time and check your progress occasionally with a few rounds.

Re: Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

I just looked through my PM's and a very nice hide member sent me some good info ( several months ago) on the feed lip mod to AI 223 mags, I even gave him a call. I wish I had saved it.

I even bought one AI 223 mag and was going to just "try" it and decided to go 243 again. However I would like to try one if they could feed good enough to take to a Tac Comp.

Re: Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

Thanks... I have JB's email address and an old phone # thanks Jon

seven, I thought that might have been you !

I think one would be the shiz bomb dig dog fizzle shiz nits if it would only feed "under Tac pressure" at a Comp

thanks again guys

Re: Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

Ran a 6 Dasher (6 BR blown out .100) at the last TV team match. No feeding issues, ran the 10 round 308 ACIS mags unmodified. Nice to be able to spot your own hits and even trace once in a while. Also used for Heat Stroke inv. with no issues other than the F-ing wind.

Just got some of the 10 round .223 mags for another rifle, may need to try one of them for the 6 Dasher.

This is a 6mmBr i built for myself a couple of years ago.Its about to be re-stocked and repainted to freshen it up.
However, as you can see, its a surgeon action. It needed a sako extractor fitting to make it reliably eject. The mags are straightforward AICS with a 3mm thick aluminium plate in the front, just to stop the rounds creeping forward.
This gun is 100% reliable as far as feeding and extracting goes. I regularly use it in a speed comp here in England called the mcqueens, which is a speed sniper traing comp. Rack it fast or slow, it always works.
I build a lot of 6mmbr repeaters, and certain actions just seem to work better than others for them.

Re: Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

A guy on 6mmbr.com has one in an 2.0 aics stock. He has a big write up on it there. He uses it in tactical matches. A buddy of mine runs one in a 1.5 ai stock with no mods and no feeding issues.

Re: Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

Here you go buddy.
The aluminium spacer are actually 3 pieces sandwiched with devcon. It was all i had lying about at the time, so i figured i,d use it for the prototypes...worked so well i just left them in.

Those are 90 grain scenars in the rounds, so 105s etc still have plenty of room. To be honest, i,m not sure whether they migrate forwards under recoil or not....i,.ve never checked. However, they stop at the spacer if they do, without really losing full contact with the feed lips. The front of the mag follower is reduced to suit. A very simple modification altogether, and the mag still holds 10 rounds.

Re: Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

baldie, that is one hell of a beautiful rifle!!

I have three questions (sorry in advance for off topicness):
1)Who made the stock?
2)Is your bi-pod on backwards? (legs fold back instead of frontwards)
3)Who made your barrel? It looks like there are ither two different profiles in one barrel or there is your actual barrel threaded into an adapter?

Thanks,
Dylan

Re: Anyone Made a 6br Tac rig?

Hi Dylan,
The stock was bought as a blank from a real nice guy in the USA called Joel Russo. I believe he may be a member here. I made up all the cheek adjuster etc.
The bipod is on the right way round [ i think ! ].
The barrel was made by Border barrels in Scotland. Its a parallel blank, fluted, but has a short, thicker tenon at the breech. This is just a peculiarity to me, i like that particular contour, and have it on a lot of my own guns. The brake is a Vais, turned down to the barrel's OD.
