just curious. seems like if you have a kit to shoot .22lr from a 1911 or other autopistol, and you have a kit to shoot .22lr from a .223 based AR. Then someone would make a kit to shoot ar 15 based calibers on a .308 lower.

The request wasn't for an accurate conversion....

    LOL!

breaking my balls folks..breaking my balls.
i didn't think i'd have to spell out the exact design parameters.
for example. glock 23 to .22lr = new slide, barrel, rsa, mag

so for lr .308 to .223. i would assume a new upper, that would accept an .308 sized lower. yall are killing me with the syntax.

Orignal question repeated in different words. Does such a thing exist in a prepackaged ready to ship box?

In all reality, with a conversion, you'd need an upper, mags, and something to modify the mag well, etc. Likely you'd need to swap out buffers, depending on the system.

For what the upper costs and additional parts, the lowers can be assembled fairly inexpensively. Why not just build a second gun?

Palmetto puts lower build kits on sale as well as stripped lowers often as low as $50. Its not unheard of to be able to assemble a lower for $200, if you're willing to use some lower end parts.

You could always look at the MGI system; they're supposed to begin shipping the .308s pretty soon now from what I've been told.

    +1 to this.

thejeep: All jesting meant in fun. I get what you're saying and the idea, but the difference of price between cheap/plinking 308 and 223 just doesn't justify that in my opinion. 223 to 22lr is a whole other story. I don't see why you COULDN'T build an ar10 upper in 5.56 with some mag tweaking, but the extra cost of the upper receiver and bolt over an ar15 upper receiver would pay for the ar15 lower.
