Noodling over a possible project, and wondering if someone is making Rem 700 Valkyrie bolts...

    Anyone got any leads?

Same for mags in an AICS pattern...

we definitely need better bolt action mags,

Brian was using the Accurate Mag 223 version and they appeared to work well

Action wise, I am going with a Bighorn, but it would be nice to have a super low cost option like a 700

I have a prototype MDT metal mag they sent me to test. Its geared towards BR and 224V... Will get to testing it next week and report back. I also have a Bighorn that Ill be testing 224V with..

PTG has the .427 bolt face option but that requires a smith to fit the new bolt to your action so not exactly cheap, 300 minimum with parts (starting at 230) plus labor

Rem 700 in 6.8 SPC for donor action is "cheap" way to get action for 224 Valkyrie.

I acquired several 6.8 SPC Rem 700 bolt bodies back when GA Precision sold off a boat load of the Rem 700 6.8 SPC rifles.

I ordered an Origin for mine as well.

No barrel yet but just playing around with the old AI 223 mags I have, with the action in the chassis, I'm gonna see if they will feed when I get my barrel. So far the seem to fit the 224 case better than my Accurate mag or my MDT mag so I am hopeful.

PTG is the only place I can find Rem700 6.8 bolts and they still cost the same as mentioned above....Cant find any 6.8 Remington bolts for sale.

Unless you happen to find a cheap 6.8 spc rifle the Origin or similar lower cost custom action is going to be your best option.

You could always start with a Rem. 223 action and have the bolt opened up, but that route gets expensive quick.

I had considered a Bighorn, but I don't think they'll fit the JAE chassis I intend to use on this project (lug is too thick), hence why I was thinking of using an old .308 Rem 700VS barreled action I have.

May just say screw it, and call Mike at MHS to see what they have available in barreled actions. No sense in screwing around with the Remmy if it's going to be that much of a hassle (timing the bolt handle, etc.)

Definitely interested in how the MDT mags work; they've been turning out some slick stuff lately that has certainly been in line with the trends of precision rifle. Impressed to see them responding so quickly and intelligently to market needs.

Thanks for all the replies fellas; clarifies things a whole lot.
