Hi I'm looking for someone who is into nrl22 or mars. I'm new to competition and would like to get some help and/or
advice. Or maybe someone just getting into it as well we can help each other out. I guess just seeing if there is anyone else in the area.

Where are you located? I’m going to be giving a demo at my range nest month for new shooters who are thinking about joining the sport. I’ll be doing the demo at Alexanders but your are welcome to come along to the range one day and give it a shot if you are close enough to me.

Awesome to hear that there are some guys on here. I live just outside of York Pa.
Eoddave27 what range are you giving the demo at? Is it nrl22 or mars based? Either way I would love to attend and see what is out there. Also is this for stock class or open? Should I bring my rifle or anything?

The demo I am doing will be at Alexander’s Sporting Farm and will be geared towards Mars. I’m not aware of many clubs in our area who shoot NRL22. Mars is more challenging in my opinion. Think PRS but with a 22lr shooting to 200-300 yards. I am in the process of getting my membership at York IWLA but haven’t completed the process yet. Once I have my membership there it will be much closer for you. Also with mars you are semi or bolt. There is no base class.

What is the date of your demo it it looks like I'm about 2 hours from the farm and would like to try and make it

I’m in Hershey and also new to NRL22. Interested to see when York releases their MARS dates.
Me too
Have you ever been to a match?
if you ever want someone to shoot with let me know I need lots of practice haha. I'm just using a public range now only 100 yrd and a friends farm out to 200 but can't shoot there as much as I would like.

I've shot the January NRL22 match at NVGC, which was fun despite the cold. Will miss March due to travel. Good thing about the 22s is you can still get good practice at 100 yards!

I'm not familiar with nvgc is that Virginia ? What rifles are you guys running ? I'm going to try and go to the match on the 1st just to get a idea of what too except. I still have some equipment I need to pick up and ammo testing to do. I need to find what my rifle likes and figure out my dope. I'm having a hard time getting all my poop in a group "shit together" with the range, time, ammo and money all being short. I'm hoping that maybe after one of the matches I could sneak some range time at a known distance targets But again I have know idea of what too except .

NVGC:

Guys run everything from 10/22, Savage, Tikka, CZ 455/457, Vudoo and more.

Feel free to contact me directly for any other questions.

If you sign up for the match I will bring along a spare rifle and ammo. Really the only thing you need to bring is some hearing protection and eye protection. Guys at the match are typically more than happy to let you use bags or anything else you need. If you do want to barrow a rifle just let me know if you prefer a bolt or semi auto and I’ll bring along a rifle with enough ammo for the match and good dope for the ammo.

Wow that's a very nice offer!! I don't think that I would need a rifle I have a 10/22. What I don't have is any ammo data. If I could get some range time at a place with a range finder and someone to help me out. That old saying teach a man to fish! Right now I'm using a public range mostly and it only has 25 and 100. I need to get into a club near me but don't know anyone that is currently a member and need a sponsor. And as for ammo is there any local shops that carry a verity of good quality or is it a online thing. I try to support the lgs if possible.
Thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it and I'm I'm not the only one!!!

I order all my ammo online. Depending on the ammo you shoot I can probably give you pretty reliable dope. A lot of the guys I know who shoot 10/22’s really like Eley Force. I would guess your velocity will be pretty darn close to the other 10/22’s shooting the same ammo. The 10/22 I have really likes SK standard plus. I also had a friend win one of the Mayberry matches shooting cheap Federal auto match. It shoots extremely well for cheap bulk ammo. At any rate if you let me know what you are shooting I can’t get you some reasonably accurate dope and you can verify it at 100 yards.

That's awesome
I'm just not sure what ammo I should try first. I wish I had $500 to drop on ammo but I don't. I dropped all my funds on rifle and scope. I think that I'm going to try the sk line first. What is the longest target that will be engaged 300 +? Do you or anyone you know run a kidd supergrade? If so any suggestions about were to start on the ammo road would be appreciated. I've read a ton but take all with a grain of salt because they're contradictory in some way.

I think you will be fine with SK standard plus or Eley Force. My big gripe with the SK ammo is the lube. It is slimy for lack of a better word and kind of tough to load into 10/22 magazines unless you have a speed loader. Just don’t get too wrapped around the axle trying to get the absolute best shooting ammo. At this point you will be the limiting factor not the ammo. The experience you gain doing a match will be time much better spent than hours of lot testing ammo. That ammo that groups 1/8” better at 50 yards isn‘t going to make much difference when you are balancing on a tank trap or rooftop. At Mayberry we usually shoot to 300 yards which should be between 11 and 14 mils of elevation depending on the ammo you use. Once you pick an ammo just shoot me a PM and I can send you dope that will get you within 0.1-0.2 at 200 yards. I have a friend who shoots a Kidd barrel so your dope should be pretty close to his.

not that he needs it but I'll vouch for @Eoddave27 he is good people.

@Fishfullthinking i'll second, ask just about anyone there to borrow bags and you will have about 100 different ones thrown at you. its a good idea to go that route and see what you like before you dive in and buy some that end up in a box or for sale in the PX. ask lots of questions as well. there is a lot of knowledge to be had from the guys shooting these matches. as for dope, dave's data should get you close. make sure you have a scope and rail combo that can dial / hold to get you out there around 15 mils. i think i read somewhere in the practiscore info that we are shooting out to 330 or 350 this time around.

looking forward to having you out to a match

I'm really excited to hear over 300. I'm sure my rifle and scope will be able to out shoot me. I'm also excited to meet some like minded people. This is going to be a blast I'm thinking !!

I had a hard time deciding between bolt or semi. Ended up with a kidd supergrade. It should at least keep me in the game somewhat from what I have read. I have about 550 rounds down the pipe at this point. It was ammo I already had and use as sight in. CCI mini mag and sv that performed ok but not the results I was looking for. I think I'm going to try sk standard, sk rifle match and wolf match. Like Eoddave27 said I'm not going to go bananas but would like to figure out what this rifle likes to eat.

the supergrade will definitely suit you just fine. you can try all you want but you can not buy hits.

this game is more about building solid shooting platform from non traditional shooting positions, maintaining your fundamentals and problem solving all while on the clock. i've seen really nice guns perform very poorly because the person pulling the trigger wasn't managing those things. then i've also seen off the rack 10/22's perform incredibly because again the person pulling the trigger knows what they are doing.

Roger that I've seen that first hand and I was on the loosing side haha. I have been shooting or plinking all my life and I'm not a bad shot either but I've never had to build the fundamentals. Using my frame not mussels and so on. I have read and watched video and try different positions for practice. In the end I don't think anything can replace experience in real life. This is also why I appreciate any and all information and advice. Do any of you guys or girls get together before for coffee or anything?

Right now I’m shooting a pretty heavily modified tikka T1x. The only thing left of the original rifle is the action, bolt and trigger. I have a Vudoo on the way but will probably still shoot part of the season with my Tikka. Both of my sons compete as well. My oldest (11) has a stock CZ457 we put in a MPA chassis. He shot a stock T1x last year in a KRG Bravo as did I and we did pretty well with them. My youngest son has a 10/22 that we put a light weight Whistle Pig barrel on and a stock more suited to his size. Any of those rifles are capable of winning matches if the shooter is up to the task. One of the most important aspects of the rifle is having a reliable firearm. At the beginning of last season I had reliability issues with my rifle that really cost me points. When I switched to the Tikka my scores went up considerably. In the end the shooter is almost always the limiting factor in the equation, not the rifle or ammo.

As MD said it is about building a stable shooting platform more than anything. I have seen some fantastic shooters really get schooled when they started positional shooting. I had been shooting since I was old enough to hold a gun and competing in various shooting sports for close to 20 years when I started PRS style shooting. It still took me awhile to figure out what I was doing. It is a whole different world. Just about anyone can lay prone behind a gun and hit a 2 MOA target. Once you start moving, dialing for distance and using non standard shooting positions on the clock it gets a lot harder fast. Really the only way to learn is to get out and shoot matches. Watch what the guys who are winning matches are doing and learn.

Im not sure if you have registered for the match or not but if you haven’t there is only one spot left and the match is full. If you don’t sign up now chances are you will not get in.

Thanks for the heads up but I don't think that I'm going to register for this one. I'm not 100% on being available on the 1st more like 85%. I don't want to take the spot and not make it. But don't worry you guys will be putting up with me soon enough haha.
It also sounds like I'm going to get smoked by your boy's haha. That's got to be cool competing with them.
