As long as lapua still makes the brass, it will live.
Still shooting 260 and still prefer it to the 6.5 CM
Wifer don’t shoot hers much but she still digs it. Tis hard to not dig a GAP.

Iron sights, peep sights (Palma style) and a couple of HQ European scopes.

Sorry it was more of a joke in reference to another thread. Your post has me thinking I need to get my M96 out! I've only test fired it and have never developed some loads for it.
I have a question, maybe I should pm this so I apologize for the hijack. On the scoped 6.5 Swede is it a Swedish Mauser? If so could you point me in the right direction for some accuracy loads? TIA.

No, the scope shots are with a Sauer SSG 3000 and a Sako AV hunting rifle.
I've only ever shot Norma's factory loads (Diamond Line) in my m96. I only use it for 300 m competitions. So I'm of no help there. Sorry.
AIAT and Large frame AR, spare barrels for both. Lapua, Hornady and necked down LC brass. Lots of components.
Yes. I sent my brass off to a guy who was/is here on the hide. He necked it down and neck turned it for a great price. The OAL is slightly shorter, but it shoots really well in the gas gun.
Truth of the matter, I’ve been into .260 Rem and 6.5 Grendel for @10 years. I am heavily invested in both cartridges. If I were getting into it now I would be into 6.5 CM, and 6mm ARC. If anyone mentioned the 260 or the Grendel I would be asking WTF.
I agree but I have a ton of 308 win brass and 243 win. Same with 22-250 which can get converted too. Plenty of great options today. And the older cartridges do well with research and handloading.

Might have better luck getting 6.5 Grendel brass than 6 ARC. I got a decent amount of 308 Win LC brass and a neck turner.
When people ask me why I shoot 260 vs 6.5 manbun, I tell them that I’ve been shooting it for about 12 years now and see no reason to change.
When asked which I recommend, I fully inform them about factory ammo and brass availability and concur that the Creedmoor is a more modern and efficient design, but that my 260 does everything the manbun does. Were I choosing today, it’d likely be the 6.5 merely due to a more modern design and availability.

I intend to buy a remage barrel chambered in .260. I’ve got most of the components including srp Alpha brass. Just need to get the barrel and some bullets
I just installed a Remage Criterion barrel today. Previous 3 barrels were Bartlein and Rock Creek, which shot very well and lasted a long time, since I shoot a moderate load going about 2750 fps.
How long is “a long time”? And did you get the standard .260 chambering or the match chambering?

I love my 200th Anniversary Remington 700 5R Milspec 22” .260 Rem. It has the 1:8 twist, and shoots anything from 140’s up to 160gr bullets into ragged holes.
When she needs a new tube, I’m just going to have the new blank chambered to .260 AI 40°, so I can use all the same Lapua brass I’ve invested heavily in.

Each barrel has gone in excess of 4000 rounds before shitting the bed. I once made the mistake of shooting a 2-day match with just over 4000 rounds on a barrel. I made the decision because my local smith said he couldn’t get to it in time, it was still shooting about 3/4 moa, and I thought it better to shoot the match with a barrel I knew than a new one with no rounds on it.
It turned out to be the wrong decision as it crapped out on the morning of day two in a spectacular way and became a .260 scatter gun very quickly. Lesson learned.
I bought the standard chamber in the prefit instead of the match chamber, but am not sure I made the right decision. I’m taking it out tomorrow and we shall see.
Awesome. The first 2 remage barrels I plan to get are .260 & .30-06 so I should be set for a while. I’d definitely be interested in hearing how the new barrel shoots
In fairness to manbun shooters everywhere, it's not their fault Remington completely fucked up a good thing... there is no company better at taking a solid cartridge concept and turning it into a mediocre or poorly supported production design.
The only advantage the 6.5 Creed has over the 260 Rem is free range brass.

Remington released the 260 with one offering a 140gr bullet at 2740Fps where the Hornady 6.5 Creed 140gr ELD is at 2710 FPS.
I believe that Remington management just did not market the 260 enough.
I’ve said this same exact thing on perhaps different words a bunch of times already.
There are quite a few other examples of Remington's great engineering and cartridge design followed by a lackluster or non-existing marketing effort and very limited support on the firearm side. Another that is near and dear to my heart is the .357 Maximum. A great deer Cartridge and Accurate as all get out past 100-300 yards, but I guess they only saw it as a silhouette competition Cartridge and never chambered it in anything worth using. Still my favorite handgun hunting Cartridge out of a Contender.
Remington’s idea of product intro was (possibly still is) send some samples to the gun writers and then rest on their laurels, waiting for the orders to flood in.
P.s. I have no idea why this site insists on capitalizing the word Cartridge every time I write it. It does so even if I go back and edit the capital C out.
Well, I can’t complain about how it shoots, but I do have a problem that I have to figure out before it’s useful to me.
I tried out some already-loaded rounds I had left over from my last barrel. As mentioned before, I shoot a medium load, so wasn’t worried about pressure. I only shot 10 rounds and had to use a short piece of 2x4 to coax the bolt back on all 10. No signs of pressure at all.
From what I can tell before getting home and taking measurements, the cases are binding just above the base, just like you might get if you did not full length size. Firing leaves a shiny ring around the case for about 0.080-0.100”.
Anyway, here’s the target at 100 yards. Shots include sighting in the scope and then the remaining. Note that shot 1 is on bottom left of paper, shot 2 was still off center, shots 3-4 were still about 0.1 mil low and left, the rest were then pretty well where they needed to be.
I don't have a .260 Rem. but know a lot about it. It's a great deer cartridge. Bullet selection is o.k. as Barnes makes a tsx and Nosler makes an accubond for it. I'd get the Remington cdl sf and save about $300 and put it into a great scope if it were me, but that's just personal choice. It's a .243 necked up, so should be a decent coyote rifle too.
The Kimbers are great rifles. You can't go wrong there, but you can get the same accuracy out of a Rem. 700. Too bad Tikka doesn't make a T-3 in a .260 or you could get a great trigger and guaranteed accuracy for 1/2 the price of the Kimber.

Bullet selection is the same as the 6.5 CM. Which is lots now days. At least if you reload. If you don’t then 6.5 is probably the better choice for factory ammo and $$

I have a Tikka ctr in 260. Love that thing. Factory barrel is a bit slow but crazy accurate.
Just got a new rifle with a 308 and a 6.5creed barrel not sure I want to invest in the 6.5 but the deal was to good.
