Anyone think this would make a good barrel?

Was doing some digging for .22LR barrel blanks and this came up.

Any thoughts on it? Only thing I'm not crazy about is the 8 groove rifling(heard somewhere that they seem to foul worse).
If I am reading correctly is it already chambered? Thanks guys.

Nope, not chambered. It's marked to show the chamber end of the tube.

It's got potential to be a nice tube if you've got a smith with the skills. I might think about one myself...

How do the ends differ? Sorry for the idiotic question, but just curious!

The reason I ask about this barrel is I'd like to chamber it all myself, seemed like a better alternative than a Green Mountain barrel blank, which I would also consider trying if they were in stock.

I have been looking at the green mountain barrels and also the one you have in your link as well. I wish the one in the link was about 2" longer. I have a 40x I want to finish at 20" Hopefully someone more knowlegeable than me can correct me if I am wrong but I believe the barrel in your link (the one from Numrich) is a button rifled barrel. The end that is marked for the chamber tends to be larger because that is where they started the button and tends to be larger. You want the small side to be the muzzle end.

Seems like a low price for a match barrel blank. As for whether it will shoot, I really don't hear much complaining about how Anschutz barrels shoot. .22lr benchrest guys have found that for their sport you need something a step up from this. They seem to favor the Benchmark 2 groove most but for any other purpose I think you will be blown away with the accuracy this barrel could produce and that price looks very low to me.

I think I may be picking up one of these, just not sure whether it should go on the Marlin or CZ 452V, decisions decisions!

Holy crap! Didn't think they had any of these. The chamber end is marked, because the blank is probably taper lapped, so the tightest end is the muzzle. I Just got a Schultz and Larsen .22 bull barrel from them, and turned the shank to fit a Rem 580. Shoots a bughole at 30 yds with Wolf MT, waiting for the wind to die down here to test at 50 yds. The S&L barrel is blued, tapered, and also taper lapped, according to the slug I pushed thru. About the same price.

Actually, all that I did was to cut back the chamber end of the barrel, so the bullet is seating in the rifling, by about .1", and turning the shank down to fit the smaller 580 action. You have to cut the extractor cuts to match the Rem, and pin the barrel, or, like me, drill for 2- 1/4x28 setscrews to hold the barrel in. If I was a real gunsmith, instead of staying at a Holiday inn, there's enough meat on the S&L barrel shank to do threads, and thread the action. A rim recess is needed on the barrel, or you WILL peen the chamber edge if you dryfire without an empty.
