Anyone turn necks for a gas gun?

Re: Anyone turn necks for a gas gun?

NO but I have now had my daily laugh. I have built 2 whisper uppers and had no issues at all with brass made from 223. I have measured them, if someone is having chambering issues with brass made from 223 my money says it isn't neck thickness causing the problem.

Yes, I do.
You just specified "gas gun".
OK, for a .223/5.56 AR, I admit I don't as I tend to treat my AR as a long pistol, load 1000s at a time, etc. It probably depends on your application. For 3Gun, my primary AR15 app, it wouldn't be worth the time. And, I'm using a 5.56Wylde chamber so there's a slightly larger operating window to boot. If you're trying to squeeze every ounce of accuracy from a tight, match .223 chamber I am still with the rest thinking it's likely not warranted for most apps.

But, there's a growing number of us that shoot AR10s in calibers like .260, 6.5CM, etc. So for those rounds as part of forming my .260 brass, I always neck turn. I use a neck bushing die and a body die for my .260 gas gun (Redding). That may go away with Lapua's .260 brass although the cost will likely keep me with a cheaper alt (like Win .243). I don't mind paying a bit more ($$ or time) when I'm getting 10x firings (bolt gun) but the gas guns definitely beat up your brass much faster.

The one I'm really curious about is the M14/M1A, thanks.

Re: Anyone turn necks for a gas gun?

Since you're only asking about M1A it depends. My shortline (200/300 ydline) I don't. 600yd line I do but just to clean it up. Shooting LC brass I want the necks the same so neck tension is close. I probably don't have to but gives me somthing to do when I'm bored and once I do it I'm done. Does it help for 600yd line I don't know but helps for piece of mind.

AR-10 in .260 yes I do on all of the loads, form from surplus .308 so the necks are thick.
