Anyone use RL-17 w/ 7mm SAUM and 175 grain bullets

I don't use this combo, but I will say, at that OAL, WORK THE LOAD UP SLOWLY. You have a lot of bullet sitting deep in that case, which will cause pressure to spike quickly. A load someone is safely using in a long action SAUM load is NOT a good starting point for you. That OAL and the long 7mm bullets makes the SAUM tricky to load for, but once you do get a load figured out, boy it packs a lot of punch :)

Good luck!

I'm not going to say it won't work, but it would be something I'd never try. By burn rate, RL 22 would be on the fast side for 175's, RL 25 more in line. Look to H-1000, Retumbo, powders in this burn range, I do realize securing powder today is hard, but your pushing your luck here.

Thanks guys, guess I owe a little more background info. Last Friday I received my custom Remington Model 7 from the gunsmith. This gun is only going to be used for hunting...with a 24 inch Rock barrel at .850 at the muzzle it weighs 8lbs even. The same week I drew a Wyoming bull moose tag so I'd like to use the new gun for it. Problem is I only have 4 powders I could use my 175 grain Partitions I picked up for the hunt...H4831SC, RL-19, RL-17 and MagPro(only powder I found on the shelf last week). I have starting loads for everything but RL-17(heck I don't even know if it will work w/ the 175 hence the post). Since its a hunting only gun I ordered a reamer that would keep OAL to 2.825 or less so it'll fit in the mag. Only need around 2800 fps to work for me, anything more is gravy. Gun was built primarily for Monatana whitetails w/ 140-160 grain hunting bullets..thanks guys!!!

Took it out w/ 4831 and Magpro, looks like MagPro is going to work well. Not bad w/ 175 grain partitions. Middle magPro load avg 2846. 7mm RSAUM.jpg

That's cooking my moose load is a 175 A-frame at 2825 using retumbo 64.5 grains Just a slight crunch at seating to 2.820". Those partitions will hammer them swamp donkeys. Safe shooting and good luck.
