Anyone use an Ipad for field use. running your ballistic apps like shooter?

too big? too fragile? or OK

I need to get one for work and wondering for those that have them if they would be good to slip in the pack along with the Kestrel and use it...instead of buying an Ipod touch ?

thanks

Re: Anyone use the Ipad

I have been using mine. It is a little big, but is not delicate by any means. It is in an Otter box and has an invis-shield screen protector. So far I have no complaints. For balistic software we are running Ballistic FTE. With a 338 Lapua and 250 grain Scenars it got us damn close to an IPSC target at 2500 yards, and hits out two 1000 yards were right where the IPAD said they should be

Re: Anyone use the Ipad

Mine work good for me-the screen is big and i can put it in my ruck. I did put a Griffin survivor case on mine to help resist wind, rain, shock. I hear otter box is a good brand as well.

Re: Anyone use the Ipad

I have an Ipad with the kights bullet flight on it. It does not run correctly on the ipad. on the iphone, or itouch it works great. But the comeups and zero distances are way off on it vs my itouch or vs reality.

On the touch it is perfect.

Re: Anyone use the Ipad

Sounds promising!, How about using it for the cosine , is the Ipad capable, I see in the specs it has rate gyro sensors.

Re: Anyone use the Ipad

I have an iPad 2 in an Otterbox. I do have the KAC Bullet Flight app on it but My iPad 2 doesn't have wi fi so when I am in the field I cannot get the local weather feature of that app. Instead I take my iPhone 4, also in an Otterbox, in the field which is connected to the internet and that allows me to get the current local weather conditions integrated with the app. Also, the KAC Bulletflight app. on the iPad, when enlarged (X2) is very fuzzy visually it doesn't sharpen up when the X2 feature is used.

I prefer the app on my iPhone.

Re: Anyone use the Ipad

I always have my IPhone w/ me. Hadn't thout about the ballistic apps or taking the IPad. Otter box has saved both the phone & IPad from 2 very rambunctious boys so I assume it will be safe in the field. Thanks for the idea...

Re: Anyone use the Ipad

I have the Shooter app on my Android phone and my Xoom tablet. I also have another app call Strelok on them.

I really, really like Shooter for all the numbers, occasionally i will get numbers from both apps, but the Strelok program has a handy feature to visualize the hold based on your reticle (has TONS of them already included) so i just use it in practice to confirm what i'm thinking my scope picture should be.

I don't know that i'd buy one specifically for shooting in the field, but as long as you are just doing some matches and practice i think either would be fine.

Re: Anyone use the Ipad

I'm a little behind the curve and haven't updated to a smart phone yet, but I do have Shooter running on my Kindle Fire. The Fire lacks GPS and accelerometers so the functions that utilize that don't work. Other than that I'm fully satisfied with it and really appreciate the larger screen size over a smart phone. The Fire also happens to fit perfectly inside my Storm Tactical Data book and cover.
