I just bought a new S&B Precision Hunter 3-12x42 for a new hunting rifle I am having built. Seems like a very good hunting scope.

Just wondering what your thoughts are of this scope??

Thanks!!

Mike,

To set up this scope, do I basically shoot rifle & get my zero, then unscrew top of turret and reset the turret to the "zero" position??

I've had a couple S&B Precision Hunters. They have excellent glass and you can get them with a mil dot reticle. The downside is that they have pretty limited total elevation travel and "odd" click values.

Re: Anyone using a S&B Precision Hunter??

One Eyed Jack is correct on the elevation travel. However as a hunting rifle and you are holding off then this may not be an issue.

I have the 4x16 and it is a lovely scope, it has 32 clicks of adjustment (1.6 milrads). I prefer to dial my scope and was ready to chop this scope out when I decided to put it on my .17HMR for which it is perfect. It has the elevation to get it out to 225 metres and this is plenty for this rifle.

Hope this helps.

What are the click values? Just curious

According to the S&B website, the clicks are 5mm (1/5") at 100m or 0.05mr/click. I thought they were something like 0.39" at 100 yards, so I must have remembered incorrectly.

Going to use this on a 7MM Mag currently being built at SkunkWorks Rifles. Only need to get to around 400 yds, so I think I'll have plenty enough elevation travel. Using a 0 MOA base on a SkunkWorks (Defiance machine) action.

0.05 MRad or half a .1 Mrad

Seee germans think that .5 centimeters is a great way of making sure that the zero is really true,

I have only played with one, own other SuB scopes, these are great hunting scopes and great glass too.
