Bronco and I are using the 250 Sierra's MK right now with 95gr of H1000 and gettin just shy of 3000fps. No pressure signs and holding good out to 1400. The 338 is new to both of us, and we haven't loaded any of the 300's yet. Lapua brass

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

My loads for 338LM TRG-42

1. Bullet Lapua Lock Base 408 250gr,powder 95.8-96.1gr depending on brass lot, primer Fed 215, COL: 3.6063" inches. Velocity from a new barrel: 2972fps at 68farenheit, from a barrel that has 200-600rds behind velocity: 3000-3034fps,at 1000-1500rds the barrel is somewhat used up but accurate velocity between 2870-2903fps at 68farenheit, 1500-2000rds around 2788-2837fps.

I used 44pounds of N570 and two barrels before getting fully convinced of this load/powder. --->Performance comes with a price.

2.Bullet Lapua Lock Base 408 250gr,powder H1000 94gr,Brass Full length sized Lapua, primer Fed 215, COL: 3.6063" inches. Velocity at 68farenheit 2969-2985 fps----> Relatively HOT load.

3.Bullet Lapua Lock Base 408 250gr,powder NORMA MRP-2 94gr, Brass Full length sized Lapua primer Fed 215, COL: 3.6063" inches. Velocity at 8farenheit= 2867fps Velocity at 35.6farenheit =2982fps

Unfortunately the production of Norma MRP-2 has ended and will be replaced with Norma 217 which is not the same powder.

4. Bullet Lapua Lock Base 408 250gr,powder Vihtavuori N165 86.5gr,Brass Full length sized Lapua primer Fed 215, COL: 3.6063" inches. Velocity at 68farenheit= 2837fps. Relatively HOT load but accurate.

All these loads work up to 1312yards/1200m, but none are as good as Lapua factory AMMO, which I use in competition(loaded with same b408).The factory AMMO is very stable up to 1531yards/1400m Next powder to try will be Vihtavuori N560 and possibly H4831SC.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

What velicity are you getting with your load in your Blaser. I have one as well and my OAL is 3.60 and i use Retumbo 96 grains with 2970 velocity 250 Scenars An Australian Instructor suggested to go to 3.582 OAL for the Blasers 338 LM

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

For anyone interested, I just picked up 5 pounds of VV N570 at MidSouth Shooters Supply. Been trying all over the country to get more of it for almost a year, before I run out of what I have. Excellent propellant. I'm using 91 gr with 300 SMKs and/or 300 Scenars. Somewhere around 2700+ fps. 0.018" jump. Getting around 1/2 MOA out to 1000 yds. Savage 110BA.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Surgeon build with 30" schneider 9 twist PG
91.5 gr of H1000 at 3.71" oal with 300 Berger gen 1
shoots at 2804 damn near every shot. Shoots in the .1 and .2's at 100 yards. Held good out to 2000 yards. Shot a 4" group at 1000 with 5 shots

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

After somewhat extensive load development, a stand out load for my AX-338:

Lapua Brass
Fed 215M primer
Sierra 300gr Matchking
92.0gr Retumbo
3.710" OAL
2845 fps velocity avg. verified by trajectory/drops out to 1500yds.

6500' ASL, 70 deg F.

In my chamber, 3.710" is about a .025" jump to the lands. My AX loves this load. The charge is a few grains lower than what I normally use by about 2-3gr but at 94.0 I was seeing noticeable pressure signs. The final load of 92.0gr shows just a slight ejector mark, which is acceptable for me.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

TRG-42, 1:10
Lapua Brass
Berger 300 Hybrids
Fed 215M
OAL 3.712
Nodes at 92.0 and 92.3
H-1000
92.0 running 2860 +/- 7
Will be working out the 92.3 this weekend

Have yet to see over .7 MOA with this rifle with any load

I'm trying hard to like these Bergers, but this rifle LOVED 300 SMK's

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

I just ordered 6-pounds of VV N560. Will start off with once fired Lapua , 300-gr Scenars, and FGMM 215M primers.

This will be for a Sako TRG-42/10

Anyone using this combo?

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

I would have used N570 for your 300gr Scenars... my testing suggested that N570 gave higher MVs than did 560 with no stress visible on the brass. I get 2730fps with 300 gr Scenars and 92.0 of N570, with 215M.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Savage 110BA
H-1000 92.0g
Federal 215 LRM
300g Sierra Match King
3.680 COAL
Mild crimp w/ Lee Factory Crimp die
I must use Lapua headstamped brass, Hornady or others produce bolt lift issues past the 88.5/89g charge; no overpressure w/ Lapua brass; have loaded brass 3 times so far w/ no reuse issues

Chrono 2,766fps/5,096ft/lbs

1/8" to 3/16" extreme spread for a 5 shot group at 100yards from bipod. Havent had a chance to test them farther yet.

I own a TRG 42, rebarreled with Border 1/10 twist.

Normally I use 82.5 gr or 85.5 gr under a 300 gr Lapua Scenar; the velocity with 85.5 gr at 30° is 850 m/s ( 2788 fps)
It's a very stable load with very good results at 1380 m

Mudvayne, what primer and what brass? I hate to assume...

BTW I'm trying to get a compilation of the loads mentioned here. I'll put up a copy if anybody's interested.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

- Lapua brass, neck resize only. I found full body sizing ruins the brass by stressing the lower part of the case, at least with my body die. Case trim for length, every 2-3 reloads. I have used Hornady brass as well and find it perfectly acceptable.
- Fed 215M
- VV N570, 92.0 grains. Based on ladder testing. Also you can fill the case with N570, pack it in with the 300 Scenar, and you will not damage the brass. That's how slow this powder burns. I determined that after 98.0 grains, MVs don't speed up as unburned powder simply goes out the barrel.
- 300 grain Scenar. I experimented with 250 vs 300 Scenar, and determined that 300 Scenar is the way to go, mainly due to windage which is our biggest environmental factor in california.
- MV of 2730 with a Steyr SSG08, 27.1" barrel. My ES is in low teens. I trickle charge on the RCBS 1500 so that they always read 92.0.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

I will measure it, but I adjusted the COAL so that the round would fit in my mag and load reliably. I found earlier that the seating to the lands approach was less accurate in my rifle. And seating the rounds deeper did better both in my Steyr 338LM and Rem 700 308, in that MV ES tightened up noticeably.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Good info!
What was your MV with that N570-98gr/300gr Scenar load?

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

JL I will check my records, but my chron read the same speeds for a 98.8 (max recommended load) and a 98.0 grain N570 load... I had a hard time explaining the phenomenon until I sat down to think what could be happening. I shot enough rounds to verify that 98.8 was no faster than 98.0, so it had to be that the addtl 0.8 grains were not being burned so as to cause more velocity.

My accuracy at 1 mile seemed not to be compromised by the 2730fps that the 92.0 grains gives me. Yes I use more elevation, but the 300 grain Scenar spanks the steel all the same. Not every time, mind you.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

82 grns of n-165
lapua brass
cci larger rifle mag primers
250 gr lapua scenars
i jammed these slightly into the lands, but they still fit into the mag. i shot 3 3shot groups with this load 2 days ago and got half inch groups.

What velocity do you get?
