Range Report Anyone with a trued BC for Hornady 88gr ELD-M?

I have only shot the 88 ELD-M using factory Hornady loads, and that only out to 1000 yards. I am using the .274 G7 and so far that seems to be holding up. However, I don't have more than a couple hundred rounds through the rifle and most of those a shorter distances, so I reserve the right to adjust that as needed once I get some more testing under the belt.

BTW, my MV in the 22" craddock barrel is higher than expected, at 2750 fps, so that is likely a factor.

Hornady BC for the 22 Cal 88 gr. ELD Match
0.274 G7 Mach 2.25 (2512 fps* and above) - Velocities above 2,500 fps and distances out to 300 yards.
0.268 G7 Mach 2.0 (2232 fps*) - Mid-range shooting where the bullet spends time in flight after slowing down.
0.266 G7 Mach 1.75 (1953 fps*) - Long-range shooting where much of the bullet flight occurs after velocity loss.

God damn that's awesome, Lash! (on the speed). What 22" did you get from Craddock? My 22" Criterion upper (Suppressed) runs 2625 with the 88 ELD-M ammo. Did you get a Rock Creek?

Really, no problem with .061 W freebore, great info as i would use a krieger as well. Powder? Coal?

I'm using 24grs of H4895 and my OAL is 2.515. I had a very strange event happen to me. I haven't had any pressure signs but out of nowhere 2 cases at different times had massive primer leaks and the primers fell out when the case was extracted so I would definitely work up from a lower load. I don't know if it's bad brass or whats going on but I usually get some type of mild signs before total failures like that.

I've shot them out to 989yds and the advertised b.c. has been spot on at 2839fps from my 223.

Feels bad man. That velocity is more than impressive, that's the same speed my 24" 22 Grendel sends them at.

Thanks for that, I hadn't seen that page before.

Bc was spot on in my 22 creed at 942yds. Shot well too.

I have found that Hornady can be generous at times with their BC's... I'm also at 200-400ft of elevation though.
That doesn't seem to be the case with this one. I'm 35-50 ASL and have found that their published BCs are spot one using their factory loads for the 88 ELDM. This out to 1000 yards. See post #3 above.

They could be right on that particular bullet, on the 338 I shoot... They were wrong.

Hornady has changed their G7 bc on their 285gr eld-m
to .417 (sectional density of .357) The G7 used to be in the upper 300's.

The Berger 300gr hybrid G7 is .421 (sectional density of .375)
I think we all know the hornady does not perform within 1% of the berger like hornady just claimed.

I had to adjust my bc back down to .390 on my hornady 285's to get the elevation right.

If you're shooting Hornady bullets why not download the 4DOF app?

The Doppler data provides position and velocity, mach vs. CD data 10,000+ times a second when they test them out to 1500-2000yd. Picking a single BC number, especially a G1 is begging for error, worse the farther you shoot.

If your velocity data is good, my experience with 4dof is that elevation is perfect. I've shot 140 and 147 ELD's in my 6.5 creedmoor to 1200-1700yd and been blown away. Almost nothing but wind misses.

Old thread, but I had a similar thing happen to me with just one case out of the blue... using a compressed load of Varget powder.

I believe I have identified the problem, at least in my rifle.

I think the compressed load of Varget caused some rounds to seat longer than others then jammed hard into the lands. and would not soft seat back into the case when chambered because of powder pressure against the base of the bullet. (or just firm neck tension)

I have not had any such problems since with 8208XBR or 2000-MR or VV550 because none of them completely fill the case, so my seating depth is more controlled.

So if you are having this problem, leaving a little jump will lower that initial pressure spike. You can get into the lands but don't stuff it hard or you might have a problem.

A good long throat is your friend with these heavy rounds too, yours (InkedIan) is a little on the short side based on the 2.515 seating depth.
