Does anyone have any experience or have an opinion on a UTM X Universal Thermal. Primarily deciding between a MK III or this unit.

Probably one of the best thermals out. Its a small unit that can be used handheld, clip on or dedicated.

OASYS are nice units, but civilians be wary of the sale process. Buy only from reputable BAE dealer. Even if buying a used unit, the process is that the device should go back through the original BAE dealer as a part of the transaction. This enables the original BAE dealer to know where the device is, who owns it, etc. and keeps the device legit in the eyes of BAE. Used devices sold on ebay by individuals are suspect. A civilian who owns a legit OASYS unit should know the process.
The one I am looking at is NIB and from a legitimate company most of us here are familiar with. I appreciate your opinion and suggested cautionary approach. Thank you

MKIII is probably best for my needs, or something that can be purchased from TNVC. I am funny about who I buy from, and they seem to be 150% reliable.
My buddy has a Legit UTC X and is looking for a Reap IR plus 5k for it. I'm pretty sure it's the King of thermals. I almost got it off of him for a scar17 and DD5ambush but that's really the best I could offer him at the time.
I certainly don't doubt that one bit. Technology advances faster than the shipping of a newly purchased product lol
Be very careful buying used BAE stuff, it’s almost always stolen.
The UTM is a nice unit but I think it’s a better monocular than dedicated sight because of the play in the Wilcox shoe mounts.
For what used legitimate ones would cost (if you could find one) you can basically buy two new Trijicon units that use BAE cores. That’s the route I’d go. Get one that will be a great monocular and one that will be a great dedicated sight.

I agree that there are a lot of sketchy units out there but there is actually actually lot that actually read legit. You just want paperwork leading back to one of their dealers. That way BAE knows who has these units.

two sorts of "legit" in the BAE/OASYS world (which I have experience in)
01 - Not stolen
02 - BAE will work on the device if you pay them ...
So this one requires you have a paper trail back to a valid sale that went through a valid BAE dealer ... if you are selling a legit BAE OASYS unit, you should run it back through the original dealer to give it a "stamp of legitimacy" and help the new owner with their paper trail. The dealer I bought mine from told me that ... and another individual who was hawking "legit- Contractor" devices told me that.
I spent six months calling around to find an official BAE dealer that would work with me to get BAE to approve to sell me a UTC-x and finally got it ... but I do not think that is a repeatable process. My understanding now is that BAE has cancelled all the OASYS dealerships. So I do not think it is possible right now to buy a new legit one. Used ones exist, that were bought by "contractors" ... I think Skeets and UTMs are the in this pool. While I was doing my search I heard there were about a dozen "legit" UTCs in this pool ... so there might be a tiny few ...
I paid new unit price for my UTC-x ... I paid for the paper trail, etc. Used "legit" UTCx I've heard of for $15k ... Skeets and UTCs maybe $8,500 ... things to worry about "is it stolen" ... "can you prove the paper trail back to the official dealer" ... is it really a 640 ... some skeets, UTMs and UTCs are 320s ... not 640s ...

I would like to test a Skeet or UTM side by side with a Patrol to see if the better optical train does make them better clipons ... but until I can prove that ... I agree with redneck ... I'd rather have two Trijicon/ OASYS units than one BAE/OASYS unit ... the exception being the UTC-x over the SNIPE ... I had both ... I liked both .. but the ability of the UTC-x to be moved from rifle to rifle with no POI shift was the key differentiator for me ... so I kept the UTC-x and sent back the SNIPE. Twice the cost for twice the magnification and a whole different level in terms of mitigating POI shift.

^i have handled a t70 and would take a lwts all day every day over the 70. The 75 is supposed to have longer range
Which means the t70 supports 4x to 6x magnification on the day scope ... and the T75 supports 8x to 12x on the day scope ... (depending on who you ask, as different people have different sensitivity to "fuzzy")
