Well I just got back form UPS and sending all my parts off for my first build. I'm going with APA for this build and for some good reasons. I have done my homework and talked to alot of great gunsmith. But I just feel that the guys at APA go above what other do. I never felt like I was in a long line of builds. They always talked to me as if mine was the only one they we'er working on. And we all know that isn't the case. This is the first high end custom I have had built to my specs. I will try to post pics (with help) and show how this unfolds for me. I'll give a range report and do my best to put this build threw its passes. Now I just gotta wait for a about a month and look for that brown truck!

Re: APA custom rifle

Congrats! They build a great rifle. I had them build me a .17 HMR Sako Quad and they did a wonderful job. Look forward to seeing your build.

Re: APA custom rifle

Well first off I feel like a proud poopa in waiting. The specs are: new rem aciton being totaly blue printed by them, their tatical bolt handle, timney trigger tuned by them 3.lbs, R&D bottom metal with 5 round mag, Broughton 5rc barrel in their specaial contour around a 5.75 finished at 20" with the little bastard break, McMillin HTG stock in woodland camo, badger pinny rail..... in .308. I think it was Mike I talked to and is going to for the first time send along a little write up on proper barrel care APA style. That was for me the tie braker, there are alot of good (great smiths) out there. But APA can build a laser and help me know how to take care of it!! People can reck a custom barrel and I don't want to do that. So Mike said he'll add a write up on how to take care of it the way they do their guns. Just awesome to deal with. I also put a disposable camera in the case so they could snap fun pics along the way of the build. Which they said they'll do and have fun with. I just can't wait. Now I have to figure out what optics. Any thoughts

Re: APA custom rifle

I would go NightForce. Get the 5.5x22x56. It works great for me on my Tango 51 (.308)!!! Call Alex at Euro Optics (tell him Keefer told you to call), he will hook you up and answer any questions you may have. He has lots of NF in stock and his is the best to deal with. I would not purchase from anyone else.

Re: APA custom rifle

I am looking at a night force but nothing in a 56 objective! That would look like a open umbrella on a light short barrel gun? Looking at the Leuplod 3.5x14x44 or nightforce 3.5x15x50. Weight is some what of an issue here. But for the higher end Leupolds $$$ I would just get a nightforce!

Re: APA custom rifle

I have the 3.5x15x56 on a .223. I like the 56mm for its light gathering ability. You can't go wrong with any of the NF scopes. What type of shooting or hunting are you going to be doing with your rifle?

Re: APA custom rifle

Nightforce makes a great scope.

I would also edge toward a 56mm but not with a standard HTG stock. IMO with a standard HTG you will want to run a stock pack, as the comb is very low. You will also want to run as low as rings as possible.

I would stick with a 30mm tube and max of 50mm obj with that stock and a stock pack

if you got a ADJ HTG and the extra cash Schmidt & Benders are hard to beat!!

Sad to say but yes I associate myself with Jered and his girlfriend Wesley.
