For the 4P 5 bull target, a portion of the edge can be folded and matched / stapled / taped to the other side - essentially making one large target.

Scores of all three short range competitions will be posted in the same thread. If you shoot more than one competition, please use different posts (one for each). At the end of the month, scores and rankings from both competitions will be posted as seperate events.

A valid question has been proposed to allow a shooter has the option to "upgrade" their score throughout the month. In other words, if you shoot the comp in the beginning of the month but feel that the score you shot is less than par, you can re-shoot the comp, post the new score w/pic, and the new score will be the score you stand on for the month.

As this is your competition and forum, and majority rules on new additions or modifications, please vote below if you believe the "upgrade system" should be incorporated, or leave the 1 post / 1 score for each match format. YES for the "upgrade system", NO for leave as is.

Re: APRIL 2012 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

My vote of no is because that is not how comps work. If you want to shoot the target all month long then turn in the best one the day before the end of the month that is your choice, but for me that is not in the spirit of the comp.

Gonna try and shoot the Tac target again during the local shoot this Saturday.

If nothing else it helps me learn speed shooting and fast target changes.

Re: APRIL 2012 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Will hopefully compete again in the near future, when I get a rimfire. Have to sell the 03A3 first... blah. My old .22 was sold because I was getting to the point of outshooting it. Hopefully I have a MKIIFV or the switchbarrel 455 American by May comps.

I say if you want to "upgrade" their score, then shoot as many as you want for practice and shoot one for "match score". There's no way of policing it, but... meh. I think that's how it should be. I guess the closest thing to that is that you can shoot it as much as you want, but only submit it once?

Target # 4 - 42-0x
Target # 5 - 44-0x (front bag, fist under butt)

Total score: 204-2X

This is an improvement over what I got last week with this same ammo, but I am not satisfied with the ammunition I have tried thus far in this rifle, except for the $10/box Eley. But that is unsat for $ reasons. This target was shot with some entry level Mexico-factory Eley. I will be trying some other Eley, and probably Wolf MT, later this month or early next.

Re: APRIL 2012 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

In the interest of full disclosure, here goes. I have a lot of work to do still on ammo selection and setting up this Marlin XT - and I was out of the subsonic that it seems to like best... but I squeezed in two attempts at the Tac 50 this past week with rather embarassing results.

No pictures of the targets, as I shot the crap out of them afterwards trying to get this rifle figured out.

Name: Slick308
Match: 50 yd TRC P
SIGHTS: Centerpoint 4-16X40
RIFLE: Marlin XT
CALIBER: 22lr
AMMO: CCI Standard Velocity
Rest= bipod front, nothing rear
score= 50/250

The second score was worse...
I'll keep working on it.
I think I'm gonna free float the barrel next, as well as try some higher quality ammo. I may start sorting by weight, as I would get flyers every so often that was just way out there.
Eley Target didn't work even as well as the Win Subsonic or CCI Subsonic. Off to the local gun shop to see what to try next. I wish I could find some Wolf match here locally

Re: APRIL 2012 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

I know it won't count, and I'm good with that - BUT
I snuck out today and bought another box of CCI Subsonics to try again. HUGE difference, which surprises me because the Standard Velocity didn't shoot THAT much worse when I originally tested it, but it seems to be much more erratic (mucho more flyers)
I am much relieved...

Name: Slick308

SIGHTS: Centerpoint 4-16X40
RIFLE: Marlin XT
CALIBER: 22lr
AMMO: CCI Subsonic

Assuming I scored it correctly... ??

Re: APRIL 2012 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Match: TRC 50 Yard P

Name: D_TROS
Rifle: Rem 40 XRBR
Caliber: .22LR
Ammo: Lapua Center X
Sights: SS 5-20
Rest: Bipod front + rear bag

80*F with 0-5 mph winds from 9-3..

Stage 1: 10/25
Stage 2: 50/50
Stage 3: 50/50
Stage 4: 0/65
Stage 5: 20/60

Total score: 130/250

Notes:
Finally able to get some free time after my perfect target in January and completely blew it. My cold bore just barely caught the bottom edge of the circle, so I thought I would shoot the large circle in stage 4 to see if it was the CB shot or me or what. Missed the large circle. That was a huge mistake as if I would have just shot the stage 2 squares until I figured out where my rifle was shooting, I would only of dropped 10 pts instead of a potential 65. After I shot low again on the stage 4, I made adjustments and did alright after.

I hit a hostage with my first shot, was shooting low again, and got the bonus for next 2 hostages. I think my rifle due for a good cleaning. Accuracy was hit and miss for the first time in a long time, if ever with this rifle.

Oh well lesson learned.

Regards,
DT

Re: APRIL 2012 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Looks as if the majority has spoken in the poll...no "upgrade system" scoring. Will remain 1 score per month per type match.

Welcome to HIDDENMONGOOSE and CODY, 2 new shooters to the matches.

This Memorial day, let's take time to remember and reflect upon those that no only infuenced us personally, but also those that have stood in harm's way to defend our way of life.
