I have been lurking around here for a while so I thought I might chip in with an idea that I have been working on that some of you might be interested in.
A few months ago I came across an article about using a stinger missile case as a rifle case for a 50cal or multiple bolt action rifles.
The article is here: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2010...ari-style-case/ and I came across a thread here on the hide with lots of interest in that case. Well I did not find a stinger case but what I did find was a PPS 15(A) Radar case.
You can find that here: http://store.colemans.com/cart/us-gi-aluminum-instrument-transport-case-p-2525.html
The case does have the foam to protect the radar that it once housed. That foam is glued to the inside of the case but I had no problem removing it.
Now to the good stuff. You can fit 3 AR-10's provided the barrel is not over 22 inches. The AR-10's needs to be broken down between the upper and the lower to fit. My AR-10 upper has a 20 inch barrel with an overall length of 31 inches and
will fit with more then enough room. If you don't have any AR-10's then you also have enough room to fit 3-4 AR-15 carbine's without having to take them apart(This will depend on optics and what options you have on your AR).
I am planning to use the case for one AR-10 rifle, one AR-15 carbine, two spotting scopes, two pistols, mags and other range gear.
One really cool thing about this case is it does not look like a weapons case. When I recieved the case at my work last wednsday I asked everyone in the office what they thought it was going to be used for and not one person guessed it was for a firearm and they all know me as the gun guy at my work. But the shape and size of the case is what gives that impression. Most people think of a rifle case as being long as this case is not like that.
The inside dimensions are about 36" Long, 20.5" Wide & 8.5" to the top of the bottom piece. The top does have about 3" of room and would make the case around 10 to 10.5" high on the inside. The case is about 34lbs and is made of aluminum and is water proof. The rubber seal work's great. Mine has a stamp of July 1980 and a overhauled sticker of Oct 1990. Mine does have some minor dents and scuff marks but it is fully functional. It does also have the Air pressure relief valve and six latches. The lid will remove completly and is not held onto the case by any hinge.
They cost about $60 but the shipping for me was another $54. If you do compair with any civilian case like pelican it will cost you around $300 to $400. Coleman's also seems to be the only place that sells them. I have looked all over the net for the last two months and this seems to be it. Really I put this on my list two months ago and I kept my mouth shut and did not tell anyone until my case arrived. So now that I have mine I can let everyone else know.
Please note that you cannot fit other rifles unless they can be broken down like an AR or if you rifle is under 34inches. This will not work for bolt rifles.
MODS: If this breaks any rules please delete. I just want to help fellow shooters out.
One last thing: I don't have a camera at the moment since my wife took them with her when she left for the holidays. So if you want to see pics you will have to wait until the wife get's back. Also, I love this case 5 stars!!!!!
