Hi. I am planning an ar-10 build up based on Armalite parts.
I want the rifle to medium in weight, but still to stay accurate. Most AR-10:s built on accuracy purpose have felt relatively front heavy as I have tested them.
However this was not the case with OA-10 SASS with PRI III gen tube and Magpul PRS stock, which I tested last spring. The rifle is accurate shooting 2-3" 10 shot groups from 300m with rapid fire. This rifle has Stainles steel Lothar Walther 20" barrel with SPR type barrel(diameter 0.75")in 1/12" twist.
The OA-10 is no longer in the standard list of Oberland arms. I am not sure, would it be possible to custom build one at the factory.
As I shot this rifle, question raised up. Does the barrel diameter in an AR-10 have to be 0.875-1" to be accurate? This OA-10 certainly was not inaccurate. Is this however normal, with non chromed stainless steel SPR type profiles or equivalent.
The barrel length on my AR-10 buildup would be most likely 22", with rifle length gas system. However I am still giving a thought on 20" with rifle gas and 23.5" with extended gas. The caliber would most likely be 308win.
