Rifle Scopes Ar-15 223 55gr specific scopes, what one??

I am getting ready to purchase a 16" bull barreled ar in 223 for coyote control and range drills with the local police force (my buddies) I have heard several stories from scope makers that scope (A) will work with 55gr standard velocity rounds at set distances. Will these pre- set scopes really work and what scope should i be looking at? Lee

You are better off with a Mil or MoA based reticle instead of a BDC reticle. You can shoot your rifle with whatever ammo you like and write down / learn / paste to your rifle the actual drops. And, should your ammo change, you just re-shoot.

I have an IOR fixed 4x with a BDC knob. It goes to 800, but is only accurate till about 400. It is actually pretty good to 400 yards, at least close enough to hit a coyote.

Nothing wrong with that, but if you know your holdovers you can do the same with any Mil/MOA/IPHY reticle and it is not restricted to a particular rifle/load/condition.

The real trick is knowing the distance and if you don't....
a Mil/MOA/IPHY reticle is more functional for that as well.

We all change weapons and loads now and then.
My preference is to buy a scope that is not limited to one particular load/weapon. I like the fact that I can move my scopes to any weapon if I need to. It also means I don't need to memorize how a BDC might act on the other platform.

The mil reticle makes since!! I just didnt know if someone had it figured out yet. I am thinking i only want 4 power or so. I had a Bushnell 4200 1.25x4 and it was a fantastic scope but i was hoping for something a little different this time. Like i said the only thing i will use this rifle for will be coyotes and close range steel plates, or close range paper. I cant afford to go to crazy as i have spent my wad for the year. I am not a huge AR fan anyway, but i feel i need one, Just in case!! They do make the perfect coyote rifle though. I have shot many running coyotes with one. I wish i didnt sell it. I had a RR predator pursuit. It was a nice shooting AR. I am going to go with a Olympic arms k-16 this time. 16" heavy barrel flat top. I will put a quad rail forearm on it, so i can hanga light for night time hunting in the snow and full moon light. Ton of fun right there!!! Thanbks fellas!! Lee
