For the bolt to be "snagging" the extension on its way out the wear would be on the front. How are you seeing this? Maybe a pic of what you're talking about would help. Why is this titled a headspace issue? Are you having problems with stuck cases, extraction, or signs of excessive headspace on the cases?

Thats an awfully shiney extension.
Is it causing an issue? You state "it cycles fine..." so whats the problem? Simple solution: If it ain't broke, DON'T FUCK WITH IT. Is it marking brass? Scratching the projo as it chambers? Its a non-issue unless you've got something else going on.
Now, a little noob advice. There are a lot of different types here, from mall ninja's living in mom's basement, to world class match shooters; Garage hacks to full on ground up precision rifle builders. If you are serious about learning, then shut up and do more reading than posting. If you do post make it germane to the original topic. I'm having a slow day, so I read ALL your posts. Big boys pants on around here, and be serious, or be prepared to be beaten mercilessly by the locals. If you just want to ask silly questions and add off topic, left field opinions to technical postings then maybe head on over to AR15.com.

That’s classic.
They are called locking lugs and have sharp edges in the front. Chances are the bolt locking lugs slightly snagged on the edge causing the slight burr in your photo. With a dremil tool and a fine polishing attachment, that burr can be removed with ease.

To the OP...a rifle, including any AR-15, is a TOOL!!! When properly used, said TOOL is going to get scratched, scuffed, probably dinged, have carbon build-up, knicked, kicked, otherwise banged up, etc. If you are worried about THAT small burr on your receiver extension, then perhaps I might suggest you take up coin collecting, stamp collecting, etc. and leave the firearms collecting/shooting alone. If it bothers you that much, or is in some way interfering with proper operation of your rifle, you can polish it up as you have been instructed above. Otherwise, let it well enough alone and keep shooting.
One final word of wisdom...you own the rifle...now get up to speed on its proper function, proper maintenance, specific parts/components (including their proper names, uses, and how they work within the rifle as a system), etc. All that is just one small part of responsible firearms ownership.

Thanks for the advice and slap in the pee pee. I chambered a round and found it is scratching the projo fairly deep. Ill try smoothing it out and if it continues I'll inquire again. I prefer to use stones and take forever but that's just me. Its nice to find people who pay attention to details and actually care. However I know what weapons are and have used them in tactical applications in current theaters, i don't really need a speech. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Why is it that some people on here think their shit doesn't stink? It is true that one needs to learn about their tools and how to maintain them but dam guys maybe relax and take a chill pill on the noob. Ya we do have a problem with trolls, I agree but we should welcome new people and point them in the right direction instead of slappin them in the "pee pee". Not everyone here is a professional nor know's everything there is about shit. This is a sport/hobby/life style that is threatin by many out there that would love to take our rights away so maybe we oughta stick together instead of messing with one of our own.
Welcome to the Hide HammerEOD! There is tons of things to learn on here... and having thick skin is a must sometimes. Believe it or not there is a search function that is a pain but works to find stuff out. Plan or reading a ton of info. Go back and read page after page and you'll sooner or later find your answer. I'm by far an expert, compaired to others, on here and haven't really had to post questions that much on stuff cause it was aleady talked about. To me, the key is of finding answers to problems is KNOWING what to look for. Good luck.
