I am starting a AR build in a couple months. Working on trying to get all the details together now. I understand the concept behing the 1x7 twist over the 1x9 but does that change accuracy at all for smaller grain rounds? I guess if i went with a 1x7 would that limit me to higher grain bullets only? I will be handloading rounds for varmit hunting and some for the range, but I would also like the ability to shoot 55gr. What are some of the limitations in bullet weight that are able to be used in a AR platform? It will not be a match rifle by no means so I dont need to shoot the 80 and 90gr bullets. But I am no expert by any means at handloading so I am just looking for some advice before I start this thing up! Thanks!

Re: AR build, got a few questions

Take the middle ground if it is an option and go 1-8" twist. It will accomodate a wide variety of bullets from lights to moderate heavies. I've had good loadings with 40-55 gr. bullets in mine and have friends getting good results in the 60-70's range. I currently run 50gr. V-maxes in mine, but plan to toy with the 60's some more after I get more time to tinker.

Re: AR build, got a few questions

i appreciate the help. I guess the 1x7 will work fine then. i plan on 55 fmj for range only and 55+ for hunting. I plan on hunting with hornady 60gr Vmax or larger what is the largest I can load without running into problems feeding the rounds?

Re: AR build, got a few questions

How is the quality on the Delton kits? Giving what this gun will be used for I dont need to go hog wild on the build. I hope to build a larger caliber on a AR platform next year so from what I have heard Delton will due just fine. Any experiance with them anyone? Here are the specs for what I am thinking.

Del-Ton mid length rifle kit
1x7 chrome barrel
YHM 4 rail free float handguard
chrome bolt and carrier
M4 buttstock
standard front sight
flat top upper
flip up magpul rear sight
folding foregrip
Mako bipod adapter
Harris bipod
Nikon Monarch or M223 glass on quick detach rings

Re: AR build, got a few questions

I'd go with a Noveske barrel and skip on the chrome BCG (the barrel is the heart of any gun... and it's hard to beat a Noveske build for a DI ar).

+1 for Noveske.

I've seen that video, dear lord. I have to admit, I was competing against your .gif, but now you have two. I just cant seem to leave this page seeing all three .gif's at once.
