AR10 brake or hider

Re: AR10 brake or hider

A brake is not absolutely necessary on a .308 caliber rifle.

They help if you're trying to kill a lot of bad guys in a limited amount of time as they start running and hiding.

Re: AR10 brake or hider

I had a PWS brake on my 308 AR and went to a YHM flash hider because the noise was unbearable. Honestly can't tell a difference in felt recoil although there's more muzzle jump without the brake.

In retrospect a plain jane A2 flash hider for 10$ would've been fine.

Re: AR10 brake or hider

If the brake/compensator is unfriendly to other shooters, tell them to eat shit if they don't like it or STFU and move down range if you were there first. It's a firing range, not Sunday mass at the local catholic cathedral.

Do you NEED a compensator? Absolutely not. Does it make follow up shots easier, reduce recoil, and reduce muzzle climb? Absolutely it does.

I first had the POF tri-port brake and swapped it out for the Primary Weapons FSC30; wow, did it make one hell of a difference! The only thing I disliked about it was the ghastly ground signature and percussion from the muzzle blast on either side. It could be quite unnerving for other shooters.

I now have the Primary Weapons PRC and the ground signature is nothing like the FSC30, making it a pleasure to shoot.

really great atitude killshot. exactly the way ranges are closed to brakes. piss off enough shooters, they go to the next club meeting and you are out on your butt. carry baffles. catch more flies with honey principal.

That's why I don't shoot or have membership with any ranges that are populated with a bunch of fuckin' whiners. Again, it's a firing range and if I'm there first, secluded away from the other shooters as I always am, they can either deal with it, STFU, or go home.

+1 I agree its a shooting range, it's gonna be loud thats why hearing protection is required or advised.

Re: AR10 brake or hider

Holy crap Killshot, I haven't laughed like that in a long time.
When things go bad, I want you on my team. Or visa versa.

Really now, My concern was taking it hunting. I prefer to project the noise downrange rather than back at me. And I don't care to wear hearing protection whilest walking and stalking.

If you don't wanna wear hearing protection, do NOT get a brake or compensator because they will make your ears bleed. I squeezed off one shot...ONE...when I had the FSC30 on my P308 and without hearing protection...and I now have hearing loss in my left ear. My left ear was ringing for WEEKS.

That being said, if you want to use a compensator while hunting then you can always use the muffs that allow you to hear everything and only close off when a loud noise above a certain decibel rating is detected. I can't recall what brand they are because I use ear plugs when shooting.
