AR10 ideasI could trade my Gap Crusader for?

I have a GAP Crusader (Templar action) with only 88rds down the pipe and in excellent condition. Shortly after getting it I got a Rem 5R in a aics 2.0 chassis and I really like shooting it more than the GAP. I'll admit the GAP is scary accurate but my 5R isn't far behind for the price difference.

I really want an AR10 but know jack diddle about them. From what I understand there are more than one platforms and the parts aren't interchangeable. So I would like to stick to a factory gun and then I guess it comes down to what type of mags I want to use? (some use pmags some dont?)

I would also want one with an 18" barrel and is also very accurate like my GAP.

If I was to do a straight across trade for a factory AR10 what would the hide suggest is equivalent to the value of my Crusader in excellent condition.

Or, should I be asking what is the value now of an excellent low round count Crusader? GAPs site list them new as $3850 they also list the GAP 10 at $2640.

Would it be to much to ask for a $1000 difference if the GAP-10 is what I wanted?

Honestly I would like to get a little cash in addition to the AR10 but at the same time I want one that is going to shoot great.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes I think I would like to stay with a pmag gun, not really sure why?

Yeah, I wish I had decided to do this before all the craziness started but maybe someone has two and wants a Crusader.

The value of GAP bolt guns is pretty consistent and reliable. Have a look through the PX here on the Hide for GAP rifles that have been sold in the last couple months and that should give you a reasonable idea of a FMV for your Crusader. That said, I think you'll be hard-pressed to get an additional $1k out of your Crusader vs. ANY quality semi-auto at this point (GAP-10, AR-10T, etc.). First, I don't know if you'll be able to find anyone wanting to do that deal right now (trade + cash or otherwise). If you want a quality .308 semi-auto, your best bet is likely to find what you want, buy it when you find it, and then sell off your Crusader to pay for the semi if you can't afford to or don't want to keep both. Just be prepared, whether trading or otherwise, the value on high quality (and even SHITE quality) semi-autos has exploded over the last month or so and availability has certainly gotten more scarce than it was. That just makes your trade timing even more inopportune when you are trying to stretch max value out of a high quality bolt gun like your Crusader against an artificially inflated semi-auto market.

Also...before you get yourself set on wanting "a pmag gun" consider that gunbroker and barfcom pricing right now for mags is some of the most absurd ever imagined for the 20LR PMAGs with some fetching $100+ per mag. Armalite mags can still be had new in the bag for around the $50 mark for 20-rounders!

Regardless of that particular cost...don't get caught up in letting your magazine dictate your decision. Both platforms (AR-10 vs. DPMS/KAC pattern guns) have their ups and downs and both are widely supported in every way by the aftermarket. Buy on quality, features you want/need, and price...worry about mags later!

Last year Amalite intoduced a new AR10 (called AR10A) lower that will accept the original AR10 mags (waffle pattern) and PMAG's

That is the starting price with no modifications ie A2 buttstock not the PRS, no brake or threads on the barrel, no gas switch block, etc.

Anything can be let go for the right price, lol...

Re: AR10 ideasI could trade my Gap Crusader for?

I agree with ORD that the timing isn't good. AR/part prices are so inflated right now it'd be a shame to let a great bolt action like that go in trade for anything inferior to a GAP-10. Personally, I'd sell it, bank the money and place an order with GAP now. I don't think we're going to see a ban on AR lowers. The votes just aren't there for it.

Re: AR10 ideasI could trade my Gap Crusader for?

It is bad timing for wanting to trade a bolt gun for an ar-10. If only yours had an adjustable stock and threaded barrel I would consider getting rid of a Gap built Armalite AR-10.
