I recently traded for a custom AR10. It shoots well, but I'm having some issues with it. Shooting Hornday Custom ammo with 155 A-Maxs and with TAP 168 A-Maxs, and with USA ammo 155 A-Maxs, I have blown primers. I have noticed the bullet appears to be coming into contact with the side of the chamber. I have ran some SouthWest 175 SMKs through it, and it shot ok. I have two FTF. I don't know if the chamber wasn't thoated for the A-Maxs, or what the deal is.
Along with blowing primers, I have had cases stick in the chamber (FTE). The part that is really scary is that the extractor ripped off part of the case rim it "grabs" and left the case stuck in the chamber. I had to use a cleaning rod to push the case out of the chamber.
I'm not a gunsmith or too familar with the mechanics of the AR platform, but here is what I'm thinking; the chamber was not cut square to the receiver which is causing excessive pressure in the chamber (over expanding the brass and popping primers). The excessive pressure is then getting into the gas tube and over pressurizing the bolt carrier. This could be causing the the bolt carrier to operate pre-maturely, or with too much force which is why the case rims are getting pulled off.
