I bought an xcaliber 24" 1/7 twist 5r rifle+2. Before my first shot found issues w the chamber hornady match and 103gn black were getting stuck in the lands. They rechambered it and no more powder everywhere. Then i went to the range w 100 108gn match. I followed their break in cause of the issues i already had. It wanted to group but not repeatable then one round hit just off the backer into the dirt. A few groups later i took a shot and heard 3 impacts (wtf) two hit paper and the holes were big. A guy that was at the range happened to be a local gunsmith and he broke out his borescope and found (attached pics) this. He wouldnt give me his professional opinion unless i brought it in, he just went hmm and get ahold of xcaliber. There is def barrel material sticking out into the barrel. You can feel it when cleaning and in the first few rounds i found bits of charred patch and brass shavings lodged into the gas block. Could this be giving me my issues? Just want your opinions. I have contacted them a few days ago but havent heard from them yet.

Better pics, im new to the borescope. It was there before i ever fired it. The patches i used to clean out machining leftovers were being shaved off and created a clump that then went into my gas block first few shots would not cycle. Found a charred clump of what looked like patch material and slivers of brass in the block. When i removed it it cycled fine. The part that im worried about isnt the missing material but the bit of barrel material that was shifted toward rhe middle of the barrel.i shined a flashlight down the front of the barrel so you can differentiate the raised portion better. Like a pinch point. You can hit it with the borescope. It is doing something to the bullets i feel. One seemd to have the jacket come apart. I didnt even think that was a real thing. I also added a 223 barrel from xcaliber that i own with over 2500 rounds and that shows normal wear.

How would you go about clearing it out without ruining the barrel? Im basically getting shrapnel in my gas system. I hate to be that guy that thats upset about nothing but its affecting performance of a $420 barrel. I mean it has its own shadow for gods sake. I sould have bought a Krieger.

I would imagine you could take the proper size drill bit and ream it out by hand and get that clump out then shoot it and it smooth out but there's no guarantee of that. Buy good barrels from now on.

Th only problem is its not strait down the gas port. Its a little further down the barrel not on the edge of the gas port. Its like when your drilling wood with a dull bit and you push to hard and blow out the bottom. Whatever i would have to use to take it off would have to go down the barrel. Its around half the diameter of the gas port from the trailing edge of the port.

Yes. And i didnt modify or shoot any self loaded ammo. I read the warranty after the chamber issue i had. I kust had a bad feeling. I got ahold of them monday but havent heard anything yet

People who talk about borescopes being useless...just want to ignore the fact that its a tool for spotting shotty QC.

QC is the worst its ever been even from great brands, you have to do your own due diligence more than ever before.
