Well, I'm working on a recce-ish AR build--really I just want a 16" stainless barrel with a 1:8 or 1:7 rate of twist and a free-float handguard, from a reputable manufacturer. I'm looking at some complete uppers:

BCM SS410™ 16" Mid Length Upper Receiver Group w/ Centurion C4 12" Handguard 1/8 Twist

So, does anyone have any experience with stainless barreled uppers from either company? The PRI upper has a Douglas 1:8 twist barrel, and the BCM comes with a BCM stainless 1:8 twist. The BCM is more expensive once you add a BCG and CH (the PRI comes with both). Does either have a better reputation for reliability? Or give me some recommendations for around $1000?

Get with one of the "custom" guys like Wes at MSTN and see what he can do for you within your budget constrains. Anything he/Paul build for you will be leaps and bounds above any of the stuff off the rack from BCM or PRI (nothing wrong with their kit, but it isn't MSTN)!! ;) They have done a TON of Reece style builds over the years and they are first-rate in every respect.

If you are set on one of the couple options you specifically listed...the barrel quality on the PRI will be far greater than the BCM. I've heard more than a few reports one the BCM uppers that reported only "average" accuracy whereas the PRI offerings are excellent. I have run Douglas barrels on AR for decades and they are some of the best in the business.

Thanks ORD, I hadn't thought of them. I'll try to get in touch with them and see what they can do. Do you know where they're located? I may be within driving distance, depending on what they mean by "Mid South"
