I want to build a kick ass precision AR 308 and need some input. I need suggestions on which Bolt/BCG to go with. This is what I'm going with so far:
Mega Upper/Lower (already have)
Geissele trigger (haven't decided which yet)
20 inch Krieger M-110 barrel-threaded of course (for sure)
Samson or JP forend (haven't decided which yet)
Magpul UBR or PRS stock (haven't decided which yet)
Adjustable gas block (haven't decided which yet, need help)
Please feel free to chime in on any of my undecided parts and please say why?
Thanks

Re: AR308 Build, Which Bolt/BCG????

I went with a JP enhanced bolt and am on the waiting list for a Young Manufacturing bolt carrier and key.

FYI, the Samson rail does not match the mega receiver height. I went with the JP for my 22" 6.5 Creedmoor, should get it on tuesday. For the trigger I went with a Geissele SSA-E. It feels like a custom tuned match trigger. My gas block has to be .936 so im going with the JP low profile adjustable. I have the PRS on my MEGA set also, love the feel and adjustments on it.

Nice set of parts. ^

I'm using a BAT DPMS style barrel extension, JP bolt, Young BCG (been waiting for about 6 weeks now), JP gas block, PRS stock, and Geissele SD-E trigger.

The SD-E trigger is basically the same trigger as the SS-E

In regards to bolts and carriers, in my opinion, they are all the same. I have used DPMS phosphate-chrome, JP full BCG, and Armalite, they all seem to get the job done. However, the JP bolt and Young M. BCG as a set is a work of art. You're basically paying a premium for beauty.

Krieger is an excellent choice in barrels. I've also been hearing good things about JP barrels, if you haven't looked at them already.

When it comes to stocks, it's totally up to you. I tried the UBR and it wasn't for me.

Only the Samson Evolution does not match.
The Samson Star series matches perfectly.

Re: AR308 Build, Which Bolt/BCG????

On my MA TEN's I use the JP enhanced bolt and DPMS carrier that I coated with Gunkote (PTFE high lube black).

There effect is in reliability not accuracy.
Coated ones are generally just easier to clean.
It won't make you shoot any straighter or crooked-er.

Why don't you like the Young carrier? I know they did have a bad batch, but I've used them before without any problems. Young and JP carriers run around the same price, but you get a chrome carrier with Young...

Re: AR308 Build, Which Bolt/BCG????

The JP carrier is melonite treated, I run a suppressor and an adjustable gas system so I prefer the lightened JP carrier over the regular mass Youngs carrier. I didn't feel that the overal quality merited the price of the Youngs. Not there was anything wrong with the Youngs carrier, it seemed to be built well but for the same price I can have a lightened JP.
