Man, I found a lot of reviews (both before & after the 2005 upgrade) talking about accuracy and feeding failures. Are the Minis generally considered unreliable junk?
But wait, you haven't considered throwing money at one yet:Well ya talked me outta doin' that! Thanks.
Well, what you expect may not match what Ruger intended out of the product. So pick something else.I guess I expect a rifle to perform as well as the round it fires. A .223 will kill coyote at 400 yards so the gun should be able to deliver it that far accurately. I could be wrong.
This was the result after shooting next to the post, 8 months later one was still there even after a mud wasp had gotten into it. So if it doesn’t kill it will certainly maim you.
Almost bought a ranch rifle back in the mid 90’s when I didn’t know any better. Better off with a springfield m1a, or better yet jump into modern times and pick up one of those fancy ar-10 pattern guns.
@Belisarius - And that is NOT a stock mini 14! It does highlight their potential with a good barrel .750 + through the gas block.
Accuracy systems I suspect. This is exactly why I started a thread on re-barreling mini's, they're reliable in stock form, just not precise. If there was a cost/time effective solution for re-barreling these I'd be all over it.

Would you re barrel your Mini 14 if there was a good option with reasonably quick turn around time?
Your answer to the pole above should not be based on what is available now. It's would you if there were a better solution that was reasonable on cost with a pretty quick turn around. Think about LRI's blueprinted 700 barreled action group buy. How many people dug that old 700 out and shipped it...www.snipershide.com
My Mini 30 wont ignite steel case stuff reliably. Lot of guys have problems with them unless it’s brass case stuff but what the hell is the point of chambering something in 7.62x39 that won’t run steel case.
Junk? No. Super accurate? Also no.
Care to elaborate? My Ruger Mini 30 shoots steel and brass. If you have one that doesn't all you need is a file and five minutes.
