I have both, Seekins are nice but I have never had a problem with Burris at all and I have put both through a lot.

Yep... Because I see used Burris rings go for $50-60 all time.... But if they work for you then good.

Well "smart consumer" really means you pay less to get the job done. I don't know how paying more makes you a smart consumer.

I have about 12 rifles that I can refer you too, and all have Burris Rings, and every single one of the rings do not have issues.

In addition, just don't take my word for it.. look at Midway's Reviews of the Burris. Click on the "Reviews" tab in the link below. You will see quite a few people love these rings, and nothing really bad can be said about them.

Then again, these people are probably not part of the cool kids club.

Yeah,the fact that (when using Burris rings)I can remove my scope from the rifle and get right back to within 2 mils for elevation/ windage after re-installation is such a plus.

helps get rid of that pesky return to zero.

I vote seekins. I figured their base and rings on my budget SPS Tac and SS10x glass was worth the total $220 cost to know:

I won't have to lap them.
I probably wont have any problems with them.
If I do, I will be taken care of.
They hold their value.
They're made in the US.

I think most decent rings, even priced 40% less than Seekins, you won't have a problem, but the points listed are why I figured it was worth it. It not a whole lot of money.

As to the aluminum vs steel, it doesn't really matter. If you break your aluminum rings, you have bigger problems.

I'm sure seekins are awesome. But my cheap weaver ring on my win mag seem to be going ok. My scope doesn't shift zero. Or move in the rings. The weaver rings haven't marred the scope. I shoot around 100-300 rounds a month out of my rifle some from the prone some off the bench some over the hood of my truck you get the idea. They do everything a scope ring is supposed to do, which is hold a scope on top of a rifle without it shifting.

Of course if I spent 140 bucks on scope ring I would be apt to tell you how awesome they are. In fact I am sure they are awesome but sometimes awesome super cool bad ass isnt exactly necessary.

Some will say scope ring alignment can create issues with the scope tracking and I agree it can. This is where cheap rings with poor machining really come into play. If the front and rear rings are poorly machined they will not align and can cause the scope tube to bind. My weaver rings as it turns out were dead on.

One day I may upgrade if the mood strikes me and I have $140 bucks to burn.

This reminds me of the 1911 Snobs sure a Wilson combat 1911 as uber tight tolerances but at the end of the day a $900 spring field armory will shoot right along with it.

Made in the USA is the BIGGEST reason to buy them. IMO.

I have both, the Burris on a Savage 22-250 holding a 4-16 Millet scope and the Vortex/Seekins on a AICS 308 holding a 6-24 PST. I guess it's all perspective. Paying $129 for rings to hold a $200 scope on a $500 rifle is hard to swallow for me. The Burris rings have worked fine. Now after a year long gun build and $3500 later, I feel I should spend the extra on good rings. There is no evidence here, just what seems right for me.

Thanks Sniper's Hide for 3 pages of colorful commentary! I decided to get a pair of used Badger Ordnance Max-50 steel rings. 11 oz of scope holding power! Really wanted the 6 screw design for a scope ring hence wanting the Burris XTR. I'm sure i'll be 2x happier than the Burris and 10x happier than the Weaver rings i'm using now.

Lower quality rings really need to be lapped. You would be surprised how much this helps. This gives a very stable aligned base for the scope to lie in.
