Hey everyone, looking for a lil intel from the people who would know best..
Let's hypothetically say you or someone you love is military, PMC, or serious tactical competitor, and you were on a budget, would the Vortex PST be suitable as a shit n get reliable combat optic? Durability wise. I know they have a killer warranty and CS service, but down range when moments count that doesn't help.. Should I go with PST or would the Loopy MK4 be a safer idea despite high cost? Looking for dependability tracking wise, absolute water/fog proof, and rugged.
I know S&B, USO, and NF are kind of industry standards in the long range game, but they're so god damn expensive.. Anyone heard of Vortex's failing significantly?

Re: Are the PST's "combat worthy"?

I have pst, mk4, and USO. If I was in a life threatening situation I would not want the pst on my rifle. It isn't bad for entry level but not a scope I would risk my or someone else's life on. My pst as never completely crapped out, but I am not confident in the tracking and glass isn't even close to the Mk4

Re: Are the PST's "combat worthy"?

Vortex is a great company but he PST may not be what you need. If I was on a budget and needed something to rely on when it really counts, I would be looking at SWFA SuperSnipers. Depending on your price range from $300 up to $1500 their scopes are near bulletproof without the price tage of USO and S&B. I run USO, Vortex, IOR, and SWFA. I've had good luck from all of them but SWFA might be your best bet.

Re: Are the PST's "combat worthy"?

There are many threads attesting to Vortex customer service.

That tells me that it gets used frequently.

What optic are you looking for?

For a budget, variable mag scope for a precision rifle, I would strongly suggest a SWFA 3-9x SS. It was designed as a battle worthy optic.

A little more expensive (about 850ish), but with more features is the Bushnell 3-12x FFP tactical scope. It was put through a very robust torture test by Lowlight and survived.

Re: Are the PST's "combat worthy"?

I was looking at the Bushnell HDMR I believe. More magnification the better, I like illuminated reticles but that obviously isn't mandatory. Plus, the Horus reticle would be a sweet system I'd like to learn..

If Bushnell and SWFA are both reliable and durable scopes I'll just have to weed out the options.

Or i might just save a little longer and get a MK4..
Decisions decisions..

Ha! Great point. Kind of an obvious alert, yeah.

Did he do a write up on torture test? Do you remember name of have the link?

Thanks for the intel, everyone! Much obliged
