Suppressors Are there any good over the barrel suppressors being sold?

I was wondering if anyone knows of a manufacturer that makes quality suppressors that slide onto the barrel before attaching to the threaded end of the barrel? The overall length reduction and moving the balance point back would be beneficial features. I know that SAKO show these type of suppressors on their website for their TRG-22 and TRG-42s, but I have never seen any of these here in the U.S.. Have these been tried in the past and not worked well?

Griffin Armament has these in 5.56 and 7.62, and Allen Engineering also has these calibers.
Fire a shot, then place tape over the end so you don't get the first (technically the second) round pop.

Allen Engineering are fantastic reflex suppressors. The AEM5 is the best 5.56 sounding suppressor that I have heard on an AR15. I have not noticed a significant first round pop on it.

I have the Surefire FA556AR, which fits almost 4 inches over the end of the barrel. There were no issues regarding first round pop. This suppressor is very quiet compared to my AAC M4-2000. The Surefires are built like a tank, in my opinion.

My preference for this type of suppressor is due to the structural advantage of having the suppressor overlap -- from a mechanical perspective it is a much stronger junction than just being held on by a short section of threading.

Allen Engineering is the "civilian" version of Ops Inc. My Ops Inc 5.56 shorty can (M4-S, I think) is sturdy enough that I could probably use it to pound framing nails without throwing off the bore alignment.

Those Ops suppressors are straight up heavy duty!

The barrel work to ad the sleeve is the only thing that deterred me from buying one about 5yrs ago. Steve from Adco really talked them up as far suppression capabilities go.

Ron Allen at Allen Engineering built the Ops Inc cans. As far as I know, his suppressors are no less durable than the Ops Inc models.

Tim Humston built a custom one for my brothers 7mm. Uses a shoulder on the barrel, goes back over it 6 inches and also uses muzzlebreak as part of the suppressors. Sounds a lot better than either of my 308 cans and he's burning around 20 gr more powder.

How much increase in your bolt speed and/or rate of fire do you have with that can?

Can someone explain this in more detail? I just purchased a Colt LE6933 and was looking for an Ops/Allen Engineering suppressor for it. Is it going to require some machining to my barrel to get it to fit?

Thanks.

Allen Engineering doesn’t appear to have their own website, so the following looks to be the best resource;
https://www.adcofirearms.com/acc/pr...=Allen+Engineering&product_category=Silencers

Here is specifically where you can see the options for the 5.56 two piece mount;

Why go to the trouble and added expense of profiling the barrel for 7.62 or pinning a collar for 5.56, when you can just thread on a simple muzzle brake or flash hider that is both a collar and thread attachment point, like the reflex designs of the Griffin Armament 7.62 RSTA (I have one) and 5.56 SPR?

Here is a Griffin Armament video showing both their product and Ops/Allen Engineering’s;

If its doable on the rifle youre looking at, I would personally always go with Ron at Allen Engineering. He was the subcontractor when Ops Inc scored their MK12 program suppressor contract.

So he built them for Ops inc and now hes building them with his own name since Ops Inc has been downhill like mad the last 5-10yrs.

The price is awesome, the mounting systems can be tricky... I really really wish I could somehow go back and have him contour my barrel before I cerakoted it ... an AE30 would have been outstanding. Maybe theres still time...

Hidden - is the T8 all stainless? How much does that cost you over there and what is the process like to get it?

TIA

The BR Reflex T8 and other model suppressors are made from carbon steel.

We manufacture them to BR Tuote Oy, in addition to several suppressor families of our own.

I'm very happy w/ Ron from Allen engineering...
I went the ops route years ago/ Ron squared me away when my can took a baffle strike, top notch service from him.

My understanding is that one of the benefits of the two pice mount is that you have a barrel that is contoured and threaded concentric to the bore. The collar centers the can to the contour, and then the muzzle device is the second point of contact centering the can to the bore. In my mind, I can't see how this is any more or less accurate than a standard muzzle threaded suppressor.

With the Griffin one piece mounting system, everything is dependent on the barrel bore being concentric to the threads. The two point of contact theory now is no longer dependent on two points of contact that are concentric to the bore, merely one point of contact concentric to the bore.

I don't see a way around doing a custom contour of the barrel if the precision aspect is what you're after. Granted it costs more, to spin the barrel and get the contour right, but if precision is what you're after, then you must start with a precision contour. I don't see that kind of precision with the one piece mounting solution.

I am super impressed with the Allen Engineering 5. I'm currently running it on my MK12 Recce. There's is no POI shift at all and it's insanely quiet. The mount is solid with no wiggle.

Got to finally test drive the can im waiting for the damn ATF to say I can possess. Its the Allen Engineering AEM5/Ops Inc 12th model 22cal.

It is stupidly quiet with very hot loads from Black Hills. MK262. Sounded like a snappy 22lr. Lockup is yet to be determined but the sound suppression cant be ignored. Issue is mostly the proprietary style collar/20 degree taper system.
