Are we being visited...?

Are we being visited?

I chose the "Yes" option. And the reason for it, is because it is a question with open ended answers that may or may not be answered in our lifetimes. I have personally never seen or experienced anything out of the ordinary. But I will go by probability and estimation alone in answering this question. Here is my take on it:

The universe is a huge place. I believe astrophysicists have stated that there are more stars in the observable universe than there are grains of sand on all of earth's beaches and deserts. Each one of these stars belong to a system of planets, planetoids, comets and other stuff with peculiar laws of motion and thermodynamics much like our own. Of course, a vast majority of these worlds may be dead and void of any biochemistry, just like Mars or the moons of the gas giants. But there may also be worlds just like Terra, which lay just in the habitable zones of their stars, thus enabling biochemistry, DNA, and eventually life to arise and flourish.

Earth and it's solar system is relatively young compared to the age of the universe so far. If worlds just like Earth had formed in the early stages of the universe's formation, there could be a possibility that entire civilizations have rose, achieved great heights, and fallen in a vast period much like how empires have risen and fallen in earth's history. Arthur C. Clarke have mentioned this a few times in the epilogues of his Odyssey series when he talked about the elder race that left the monoliths all over the solar system.

All of this leads to this one conclusion: Civilizations which have mastered the extreme difficulties of traveling amongst the stars would possess technology so advanced that we would only perceive them as magic if we see it. Thus, if they wanted to "visit" us, they do not have to come here in spacecraft or flying saucers giving off detectable light and heat signatures. They can simply observe us from afar, with instruments that would make our Hubble telescope seem like a pair of opera glasses.

Ever since we had invented radio and wireless communications, we had been busily pumping gigawatts of energy into space. And the lights from our cities would clearly be visible on earth's night side. So, if anyone "out there" is interested in observing us, they will be doing so. And we will not know a damn thing about it, unless they choose to make contact.

I am a person of rationality first and foremost. If something is not observable or detectable by scientific means, I tend to dismiss it entirely until it has been proven scientifically to exist. Supermarket tabloids and doctor's office gossip magazines do not qualify as scientific. But when it comes to technology and the possibility of technology's progression from here, there are much "what if's" to consider.

Color me agnostic on the subject. I have seen no direct evidence that supports ET's existence, at least using "the scientific method".

That said, what I do believe is that it's quite arrogant of us to believe that (much like Blue Sky points out above) we are the only game in this vast universe.

So, I am keeping an open mind about it.

And buying more ammo just in case! :p

I’m saving for one of those ray guns myself!

I didn't vote but I would like to say that I sincerely hope the answer is no. I see it as there being very slim odds that we would come out good from any contact with any lifeforms advanced enough to master interstellar travel.

Three questions I would first ask any ET:
1) Is your reticle MOA because you think in inches and yards?
2) What’s your take on NDs.
3) Don’t lie, you’re only visiting because our women are hotter than yours and Earth is the Cancun of the Spring Breaking Universe?
You forgot ;
.45 or 9mm
Keystone Light or Natty Ice
At 2:00 am , Fat girl or ugly girl
Braves or Yankees
Ford or Chevy
.308 or Fag caliber

I hope so. I need to get laid.

While I have no doubt there is other life in the universe - given the number of possible inhabitable planetary systems, there pretty much HAS to be a LOT of life out there.

That said... the HUGE DISTANCES between even the nearest star and us would require transportation technology that truly defies known Physics. The technology that would be needed to cross such distances is virtually inconceivable.

So, that's the part that has me quite skeptical about "visitors" from other planets. I think the "visitors" are US.

I voted yes but I do not believe they are "aliens" like from another planet. I believe we are being visited by Humans form the Future who are coming back in time to gather genetic material so they can re engineer the biological engineering that went wrong at some time in the Future.

This is why they cannot make direct contact and sit down and talk about it - they cannot alter histroy for fear of making the future even worse than it is for them or completely destroying their "present".

VooDoo

I’m sure that their are advanced life forms out there in the universe somewhere. Especially since most astrophysicists believe that we only know of less than 10% of the universe as a whole. It is impossible to think we are it and occupy, or even comprehend, so little of it.

Back in the day, my entire air crew witnessed something not explainable even by modern technology . We all filled out reports [which I assume are still in an Air Force vault somewhere] ,including the GCA controllers who saw it first. However, none of were abducted, raped, anal probed, etc. ,so , who knows ?

10% of infinity = ?

I cannot believe that we are the only planet with living organisms in the whole 9.25865424e23miles of the known universe. Have we been visited? Don’t know. It seems it would be impossible to travel such vast distances, but physicists are occasionally discovering things that just don’t agree with the known laws of physics. The problem with physics is; we don’t know what we don’t know. So is it possible that these aliens are traversing light years of space, I suppose. I would like to believe they are, but I’m not putting money on it.

However, all that said, I voted yes, just in case. ?

We're being visited by transient Alien Drug Mules most nights. They pass about 7 mile W of us along the Eastern foot of the Dragoon Mountains, headed further N. into El Norte.

They occasionally overnight there at the Cochise Stronghold Campground, which is on it annual Summer closure due to heat (90* F to 115* F), and wildfire hazard.

June 1st, Draconian fire restrictions go into effect each year. I'm for it, I've woken days in a row to see smoke on the ridge, and water bombers doing their drops later in the day. One soon tires of the quaint scent given off by burning Mesquite.

There's some CBP activity ongoing, but the Mules are too numerous to be completely stopped. They're like dismounted Apaches trying to hunt in the midst of a Buffalo Stampede....

We stay at home in the village after dark. Everyone here goes strapped.

Shoot at one? Are you crazy?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been a SyFy Reader/Fan since my teens (early 1960's), and pay rather deeper attention to the science aspect than the average bear.

Are they there? Undoubtedly.

Are they here? Only if they're way too stupid to have achieved Interstellar Travel.

So...

They're here, and they're just marginally smart enough to actually make the trip.

"... Look to the skies...! Look to the skies...!"

I misstated, I stated 10% of the universe, what I meant to say is 10% of our own galaxy. Being that our planet is such a small microcosm of our largely yet to be understood galaxy which, in turn, is an even smaller microcosm of the rest of what is out there it is pretty foolish not to think that we may be nothing more than amoeba in the real scene of things.

Some people really believe we are in something like the Matrix lol.

Our whole solar system could be a wild game exhibit in some alien zoo and we may never figure it out.

Predator 1 had possibly a pretty good idea of why Aliens might choose to visit our unevolved planet.

Other than somebody's interstellar range rover breaks down in the badlands and is forced to land in the jungle of earth... even then, they would probably do their best to land wherever humans are not to try to make repairs and get the hell off the planet before the natives find them & eat them. I'd see them trying for the back side of the moon first if they had to land in the neighborhood, or Mars etc.

look no farther then the 1960's era Brookings Institute report that says, we cannot handle the truth and any revelations should be trickled out after preparing the public for the news.

Back then the religious side of life weighed heavily on the decision to keep things secret. We have moved away from religion so those considerations do not have as big an impact today as it would have 50 years ago.

Time travel is the most plausible explanation, but if we believe the Ancient Alien theories there are more than one species at work here.
