Alright so I’m having the cerakote redone at my local Smith and I ordered a 419 brake to have cerakoted along with the BA. well he breaks the old one off and we go to screw on the 419 and it doesn’t fit....

He measured a few things and has come up with 5/8 x 28...

I ordered a 5/8 x 24 of course assuming it would fit just fine. I tried the brake on a factory rifle just to double check and the 419 screwed right on with no issues.

is 5/8x28 a common thread pitch? I’m guessing area 419 doesn’t offer this and I’m gonna have to have a custom break built?

thanks

can’t shit ever go right.

It’s not common, but not unheard of either. In your position I’d cut back 3/4in and re-thread.

What rifle and what caliber?

Edit: also, any thread damage or gunk anything? Did the smith use an anti-seize or anything?

i have seen 5/8-32 and there are adapters to convert to 5/8-24
maybe there are adapters for -28 if you can't swap the brake, but i'd prolly want it to fit right without a workaround.

No, threads where clean and the old brake screwed right on no problem.

It’s a .300WM Remington sendro. It was threaded prior to me getting it and I have no idea who did it.

rethreading might be my only option.

How far back is the choke on your bbl. I would hate to see it cut off by accident. I get my brakes for 35.00 from a guy on evil-bay. They were both customs for my Annie's and Rugers.

I’ve got room to cut and rethread, was just trying to avoid that if possible.

419 doesn’t offer that thread pitch anyways.

brakes look good but I’m wanting a different style.
Thanks!

In case this hasn't been solved, we see this somewhat regularly. TYPICALLY the culprit is muzzle threads that are not cut to a Class 3 spec and the minor diameter is not correct. This means that the valleys in the threads are not cut sharply. Not saying this is the cause, but it's common, especially if the barrel was threaded to the old brake by a smith.

i had exactly this issue. bad threading by the original smith

A419 sent me a new adapter just to be sure but it was def the barrel
