after 7 years i finally picked up a drop in DBM for my M24 from Marty

Note the KRG bolt knob. These upgrades are intended for use without mofifying the spec M24

For all you M24 enthusiasts out there that are in the process of building up your M24 Sniper Weapon System, here is a photo of the the D Kit contents. It's a little nicer to see a photo taken from the original TM from Remington rather than the line drawings that are in the later technical manuals. This is laid out exactly as they are drawn in the TM. This kit is the early style as evidenced by the Redfield Big Bore Sight Inserts, the Optics Cleaning Kit, the Day Optic Ring Screws, the Day Optic Windage and Elevation Dials, the Cleaning Rod and the Front and Rear Sight base screws. All of these changed when Remington changed the iron sights to OK Webber, the Day Optic changed to the M3 LR/T, and the Otis M24 Sniper Cleaning Kit replaced the cleaning rod.

This is what it all looks like packed up. Its a tight fit.

Remington was good enough to pack all these small parts and pieces in bags they numbered to correspond to the numbers on the line drawing in the TM.

For those curious about the Optics Cleaning Kit, here is a photo of what's inside. Mind you, this is the early kit and has been replaced by the LensPen. Otis also makes an Optics Cleaning Kit very similar to this one.

This box did come with the full SWS from Remington as did all the parts. This is the early DKit that was provided in the SWS. Back on page 12, Lockedandloaded posted a pic of the late model DKit. The older Pelican Box and later the Pelican 1100 boxes are no longer in production. The late model boxes are Pelican 1120 boxes.

As for parts, no you can't get these parts from Remington directly unless you can provide proof of ownership of a genuine M24. Most of the items can be had thru various sources, i.e. Brownells, Midway USA but some of the items are peculiar to Remington. That being said, the screws and other metal parts are parkerized and the cleaning rod (a standard M16 cleaning rod) is powder coated just like the barreled action on the M24. These parts in aftermarket will be blued, or in the case of the cleaning rod, parkerized.

I have a Pelican 1100 and an incomplete DKit that I'm preparing to sell off. I need to inventory it before I list it. If you're interested contact me PM.

To update and somewhat correct the previous posts on the EMA and the ARD for the M24 I present the original issue EMA made by Decilog, cage code 2F218, part number 12950986, NSN 1240-01-380-6326.
This rarely seen laser filter is made of aluminum unlike the current and more common plastic version. It is issued with red plastic protective end caps and has threads and lock ring to fit the M3a scope on one end and 50MM threads for the ARD on the other, it also has the white line index mark. The issued ARD for this EMA is the large aluminum version made by Tenebraex, model number M24/EMA-ARD, NSN 6650-01-456-6515. The ARD is dual threaded to fit the M3a and the EMA.

This is the EMA and the ARD that is in the M24 Tech Manual. This EMA was added in Change 4 and the ARD was added in Change 7 though the NSN is misprinted. The actual Change 7 page has the correct NSN but the TM that has the changes thru Change 8 posted, both printed and digital, has the misprint.

I'd be interested in seeing pictures of those parts. I have the Redfield "International Match" front and rear sights that I'm hoping to use on my build.

I can answer that and its a big NO, HS told me they can not add anything to a stock, LOP or cheek as they are molded different.

As all of the basic issue M24 items have been detailed in this thread, maybe we should continue into more detail on the A2, the MARS rail, pictured here;

is very useful if you want to mount the clip on night sights such as the PVS-22/26/27.

Badger Ordnance high alloy rings are used with this rail however the original ultra rings and scopes have been seen in use as well.

Still in my infinite quest to either build or buy an M24 built! However...I want that someone says if this is an accurate receiver, plus the bolt face that it's needed in Long action:

The action you linked on midwayusa is the correct action to use. The internal locking thing was i believe called j lock. J lock was a button type feature that dealt with locking the bolt or something like that. J lock failed miserably it seemed to cause problems from what i have read.

The ring bolts could interfere with ejection/loading if placed on the r.h. side.

From what i understand the M24 was supposed to meet a 1 MOA standard using m118 special ball ammo 173 grain. I am not aware of any accuracy requirements for a 147 grain pill. If you got a M24...shoot some 147 grain and see what it does

With M118LR the M24 was supposed to shoot at least 1 MOA but the one that I had generally shot much, much better than that. With some lots I was getting better than 1/2 MOA. I hated M118 Special Ball, it was terribly inconsistent and not as accurate as M118LR. While not prohibited it was generally not a good idea to shoot ball ammo through the M24 unless it was in dire circumstances. The accuracy was generally poor compared to M118LR and Special Ball even and unless you had gathered dope on it previously you wouldn't have been sure what your dope was.

If you use 147 grain rounds....its true they may not be as accurate as match ammo but then again whatever your accuracy requirements are is the main thing. Yeah match ammo will make the M24 shine but you gotta use what you got.

Built as a clone, I will pay 2000 for it. Rifle, scope base, sling and bipod. And thanks for the advice. With the ball ammo I'll shoot to 500 yards as maximum to keep practice. I just gotta find stuff that doesnt tear off a match barrel.

Has anyone here done some serious shooting using the iron sights for the rifle? I understand they were meant for back up use but the biggest thing on my M24 rifle was getting the iron sights 100% complete and operational and using them. I have gone with the principle to use all the equipment as far as sights go and get used to them and see them in action.

If you have used the iron sights on a M24, how far have you shot with them? Have you done prone shooting only or mixed it up a bit?

Also for anyone that has redfield sights in need of repair then call this person.

I'll be home very soon. I will try and make a video of my M24. Be advised mine has the iron sights on it but i think it will serve the purpose. The range i will be at is max of 100 yards.

Theres 2 reasons why there is no scope.

1. Money...gotta be careful with the piggy bank.

2. I have always been intrigued by the iron sights and would love to try and master them.

Im not very interested in the irons...but it does sounds interesting. As for the money, I will actually will buy a Leupold Vari-X III with USMC mildot, as it's more cheaper and I love the USMC football mildot than the regular one. They go for 700 to 900, and it's a bit cheaper than the Leupold MK4 and they look the same.

Lets begin with why the US Army Mil formulae are considered to be incorrect. Whats your take on that issue?

My take on it is i don't think it really matters in the grand scheme of things. I mean you point the rifle at the target and whatever mils it takes up, you do the math and so forth and fire. Yes you want to be as accurate as possible but at the same time if your under a time limit or things are going on around you, then you may not have time to get super detailed. Yes it could matter if you get super technical but if you do your part the bullet will kill the target.
