AT&T fuckup? 2 years to admit it and try to fix it? shocker! i feel for AT&T customers since i am one. the techs that have had to come to the house to fix frequent fuckups have all been competent,good guys. if something horrible happens to the corp itself,great. all i have is land line and dsl so i guess my exposure is limited and i have seen nothing that makes me think i have been hit. i do check everything important daily and try and keep up the protection stuff i have. my bill is huge for not much,a marginal product/service.
don't and never will have a cell,social media,text or any digital shit that life in US doesn't force one to have. of course being on here makes one a target of other actors besides the nigerian prince.

why CC not debit? have tried to min both but shop on line makes that imposs. fact is that on line,and yes includes amazon,has things fast that can't be found local in less than a month sometimes or at all. driving $s also plays into that. have to use debit for cash or FTF at bank. eg ammo. not what you want local and prices often 50% higher than on line.
at one time my daughter used an am express gold for literally everything. i do know my shit is out there everywhere. not too worried about passwords etc. a talented hacker or nsa can break anything so WTF?
if i can do something reasonable to be a smaller target,cool. still pay CC on line or FTF bank? seems that that goes to the same digital toilet as using web.

I have a great idea! Let's put all the company's and our customer's sensitive data on "the cloud," which isn't a damned cloud at all! It's somebody else's freaking server to which they have full access and control! What could possibly go wrong?

You would think that a communications company would budget in a few servers instead of outsourcing. On the scale which they generate and store data, it would certainly be more cost efficient. Especially if you challenge the accepted notion that the company has any need to store sensitive customer data, or even the need to aquire sensitive customer data.

All large corporations are mostly driven by accounting. Owning your own servers is both an asset and liability. Leasing or paying for a service is an expense.

I question that need. Once upon a time, in order for LEO to tap a landline, they needed a warrant. Now landlines calls are digitized and stored just like cell phone calls & texts. Now, all an officer has to do is ask the local AT&T branch nicely and whatever stored communications AT&T has gets handed right over. Whether that is legal or not, apparently doesn't matter, I see police cars parked behind the local AT&T store for hours at a time on a regular basis. The laws most definitely need updated, stop the mass storage, get better security for storage of data, and only use storage for saving communications AFTER a warrant has been issued. Fuck the Patriot Act.

Hacked? Sure. Third party “hacks” it and then hands the info to the .gov because they can’t legally do it themselves. It’s a contractor doing the spying for the government because that way it’s legal.

My Visa debit card has the Visa daily limit set at 0(zero for those that think a 0 is an O)... but I can get $1000 daily from an ATM machine(I personally have never had ATM fraud, its ALWAYS Visa fraud)...

We tend to be more forgiving of incompetence & idiocy than of maliciousness. So lots of things are presented as “mistakes” when they really weren’t.

I’ve dealt with all major telco carriers as employee, contractor and had them as business customers and partners for over 20-yrs. Having touched their systems from inside and gone through process of making external connections for supporting them, I can tell you their security are at highest levels. Better than government and military. In fact, many of modern cybersecurity algorithms, protocols and procedures grew out of stuff Ma Bell had implemented over 40-yrs ago.

Nah, they had been selling off your data for profit for years. It’s coming back around because enough people had traced back source of leak to them and it would be extremely costly in class-action lawsuits and regulatory penalties. This “admission” is just CYA move to limit liability and expenses as much as possible.
