AT-X vs AX?

looking at ordering one of either, Caliber will most-likely get changed in the future so not worried about that per say. I understand that the AT-X is probably going to be a bit more functional PRS wise. But I like the Aesthetic of the AX better. Is the functionality for PRS and casual target shooting of the AX going to be a significant hindrance over the AT-X?

In canada both are in short supply so I'd be waiting for either. There is a used AX available right now but it has over 4000 rnds on the action, new barrel though what do you think that would be worth? Is there any wear points I should be worried about?

Tape a potato to the front of the magwell of your current rifle and get on a PRS-y barricade. That’s very close to what an AX feels like.

You can always add the AO/Vision front end if you bought the used AX.

Hard to say since you’ll be paying in Canuckian clams. Here its probably $5500 or so depending in accessories and overall condition.

Slice that potato in half and tape it flat side down, that's shooting with an AX and a plate...

Get the AT / AT-X and get a AO or MPA for it (maybe a manners flattop/inlet ) before the AX if you re planning on doing comps.

Get the AX if you are going for max compactness for transport.

AT-X is very user friendly. Hanging out with my brother, both son in-laws, nephew or two checking out the new AT-X. Middle daughter (pregnant with our first granddaughter) walks up and ask can I shoot that? Yep, 300 yards, steel IPSC with two swinger's, middle/eyes. That's a neat story but this whole thing about the AT-X majestically being such a soft shooter is over hyped.

The bore doesn't sit that much lower than a 700 clone action dropped in a XLR Envy Pro chassis.

Agreed… always interesting to read these AIs are magically superior to everything else on planet earth stories.

The AX system has never let me down, and as a strict prone gun id get that over the AT or even the AT-X.

In awkward positions its a pig. The Rear bias and the high bore axis are my two grudges. The ATX fixes both.

They didn’t re invent the wheel, they caught up with the rest of the field. Its a proven action on a gamer chassis with a comp trigger.

AT or AX in an AO Vision Chassis might be a more viable option at the current time. You get the folder now and get close to the ATX bore height.

This is coming from a guy with an AX who plans to upgrade to the AO vision chassis and still wants an ATX

Interesting, sounds like one could have the best of both worlds with an AT with the vision chassis. ATs and AT-X in Canada have about the same MSRP of $6200 ish CAD, the AX is $8,0000 CAD and only comes in 308, I have a couple competition style guns in chassis thats very similar (the MDT ACC) so the ATX is very similar just AI, I'm thinking as the AI purist way may be the AX

I too have wondered about this comparison, there seems to be no reason to buy an AX over an AT-X, the AX is more expensive, heavier, less suited to PRS and requires an ARCA rail to be purchased separately. AT-X also comes with the competition trigger.

The AXMC is obviously a different situation but the AXSA seems to be a bit of an oddball for civilian shooters now the AT-X exists.
The AT is still the cheapest AI option so still makes sense.

That would be an interesting option for sure. Given that the action is bonded to the chassis, don't you have to send your gun in to get it removed and put on the AO? Not sure if there's anyone in Canada who does that currently so it would mean shipping it to the US which is difficult currently

I have both and can confirm. The AT-X is an excellent shooter and handles recoil very well, but I can’t really tell a difference between it and my JV Comp. Ergos are very similar.

AT-X and AX are different rifles intended for entirely different applications. Both are excellent in their own right, but it’s comparing apples to oranges without intended usage.

Surprisingly enough. You’re probably right. But still. Factory foldy boi, factory enclosed forend, looks way cooler IMO than the ATX, does not come with the comp trigger which I'm sure some folks would prefer, bonded to the chassis. That's it. That's all I got for the AX lol

I thought the AX was heavier than the AT-X?
I get that the AT-X is geared at competition but is there any reason it wouldn't work just as well for a military/field rifle?
I get the NV bridge strength concern.

Reason I ask is I'm hoping to be an AI owner next year and can't see a reason to buy the AXSA, I can make a case for every other model but the AXSA is a bit of an oddball since the AT-X introduction.

I guess the weight thing is really relative depending on barrel length, contour, etc.

Best thing I can say is to get behind both if possible and decide which you prefer. If you plan on any type of competition use, the AT-X is the clear choice. Otherwise, I think it really boils down to personal preference and is tough to gauge based on forum feedback…

No reason why the ATX cant be used on the same role as the AX for a field general purpose gun. Its the same proven AT/AX action

You’re just getting a chassis more suited for barricade shooting(lower profile/full length arca and keyslots everywhere), non bonded chassis and a comp trigger standard.

The AX can be broken down further than the AT and the ATX for transportation but thats it.

I dont think the AX can be configured into a lighter gun than the ATX everything else being equal.

It Could be configured to be more compact tho.

If the wait time for both the AX and the AT-X is similar then the AT-X is a no brainer. Buy the time you buy a cheap AT, put the AX foldable stock on it, get the vision forend and put the comp trigger in it you’re way over what the cost of the AT-X is.
I own both an AX and an AT-X. There are a lot of “ad on” things that make the AX more competition friendly for PRS. The Sawtooth rifles low profile arca mount in place of the hand guard and equipped with the grey ops plate is a lot better than just running the hand guard or the RRS arca adapter and let’s you get lower to the boreline. They also make some nice key slot weights for the AX. I love my AX. It’s probably my favorite rifle but as for just PRS competition the AT-X is much more ergonomical in many ways, so again, if the wait times are similar, go with the AT-X

So you run your plate on the very bottom of the hand guard? I use to run it that way when I had the RRS one because it was pointless to run it how it was intended because the RRS mount stuck down about a good inch or so and it didn’t ride the bag very good. Since I’ve switched to the sawtooth one it’s a lot smaller and doesn’t stick under the plate that far at all. Really rides the bag a lot better IMO.

***Edit****. I just realized you have the regular plate and not the one with the AI cut out. My bad.

By the sounds of it there's a lot of personal preference in this. I really like the look of the AX, our only choices here are AT, AT-X, AX308 and AXMC. I already have a couple chassis guns that fill that niche so this being a little different isn't a bad thing. If the guy won't deal then I'll just order new and wait
