Just wanted to post a side by side of the information I put together with the specs of the Mark 5 and the nightforce... probably some things I left out (like price!). I know its been done but I'll post pictures of the Milxt and the H59 Mark 5 side by side when my nightforce gets here.

Dial below zero lock on the NF is wrong

You can set the mechanism to provide whatever you need. It is not a fixed value dial below. Mine is set to 0.7mil below
Sweet, I'll have to look that up. When you set it up as you have it, does the dial stop at zero then dials down .7 more? Or does it stop at .7 below zero? I guess what I was saying on the Mark 5 was that it stops at 0, then you depress the "stop dial" or whatever they call the button on the elevation and then twist down .5 more.

I have grown to respect the Mark 5 as a high-end mid-point scope (whatever that is). It is solid, and priced right. And, I generally have a soft spot for Leupold. But, to compare what is arguably one of the premier high magnification scopes on the market today with the Leupold Mark 5 is just not fair. These two scopes are not in the same league.

Absolutely. I was just putting up the quantifiables to show the similarities and differences. Lens coatings, glass, resolution etc are generally subjective. Also I paid a lot more for my nightforce scopes than I did my Leupolds ?

Two things about the mk5 5-25 made me hate it.

1: windage indicator in side of tube is not centered.
2: 10.5 mils. Dialing past 10 fucks my brain up every time. Why would you stop at a half... 10 or 11, pick one.

Second on the windage indicator not being centered, seems kinda weird. I won’t go so far as to say I hate it but it is a bit strange. It seems to me the “feature” is likely the result of a design brain storming session that somehow made it to production.

Overall, I am very happy with my Mk5 5x25.

My military pricing on the MK5 makes it the absolute best scope under $2k.....and spoiler alert, that pricing is nowhere near $2k

How's the eyebox on the mark 5 7-35, especially in top magnification?

If possible how does it compare to a razor gen 2? This is what i have now and love it but thinking about trying something else.

I think that's going to be one of the key things that could be in Leupolds favor. I played with one at SHOT and the eyebox seemed decent. The NF is pretty tight especially above 25x.

Seems like the NF has FOV (barely), parallax, reticles, and probably glass quality in it's favor. The Leupold has weight and eye relief. I don't think I'd sell my NF for a Leupold 7-35, but it may be a good option for someone that needs that extra magnification. For scope above 20-25x glass quality becomes increasingly important to me, personally.

The Leupold performs better optically in non-optimal conditions ie. low light and glare. I would say the NF does marginally better in normal conditions. However, the Mark 5 in normal conditions is about 98% as good as the NF IMHO. I put more weight towards how glass performs under sub-optimal conditions, which is when the quality of the glass really matters the most.

It's like saying Car A can go 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and car B can go 0-60 in 3.0 seconds. Thats great, if all you are doing is going straight, but how do they perform in turns? If Car B has better handling/suspension/weight redistribution then its going to be a better choice overall.

I don't think you can go wrong with either choice, but for 1k less i would go with the Mark5 and spend that money on training/ammo.

Thanks guys for the info.

I’m going to give the leupold a try.
If you can go to your local cabelas or a large optics shop try and look through them both. They are incredible scopes either way for me I like them both. For the price the Leupold is hard to beat. I like my nightforce better... I think the target focus is sharper but I HATE that the whole eye piece rotates with the magnification adjustment. Also most of the nightforce come illuminated standard so once you add the light to the Leupold (I think its like a 500 up charge) you're getting pretty close to nightforce prices.
Worst case pick up something, try it out and then sell it on the hide if you dont like it :)

Windage mark is placed there to make it easier to see from behind the scope.

10.5 mil turns means the number etchings are staggered to be easier to read (more white space around numbers).

The more usual beefs about the Mark 5HD is the 35mm tube (fewer mount options) and cost of illumination.

That would be ideal but I don’t have anything local to me carrying nightforce.

I’m going to try it out and if I choose to go another direction I’ll sell here and try the nightforce or Kahles.

Thanks

I thought the 10.5 mils was a bad idea... but after having this scope for a bit, I've grown to like the 10.5 mil revolutions. It ends up being quick to look up to see what mil I'm on once I'm in the second rev.
