Anyone with real experience regarding this form?

My question to the ATF was do I need to do anything to take my SBR to a neibouring state to shoot PD or Hogs and I got conflicting answers.

One said no, this form is only for a permanent change of address not for a hunt or shoot, the other said yes and it includes suppressors as well.

I'm supposed to call back and ask a supervisor tomorrow.

Yes, you must fill it out and submit for approval. Only takes a couple of weeks. I put mine down for the whole year. So from Jan 1 2011- Dec 31 2011 I travel to XXX, reason, Training, hunting, etc...

Pretty easy, if you have a suppressor (that is not needed because its not a weapon), but its good to list it as well, because most local PD's do not have a clue when it comes to anything NFA

KaneK is right, it needs to be filed.

Here's the number for the NFA branch. 304-616-4500

You can mail it in and then call them to request it be expedited if you are in a time crunch. Mine was mailed in and back in hand within 3 weeks though.

Thanks guys...you can file it for a year?? That would not be so bad, guess I was under the impression that it needed to be done for every event.

In my case, that would be kind of a pain as the family ranch (and PD's) are just over the border in another state and we will just scoot out there for the weekend. Usually not much preplanning required to do that.

Re: ATF Form 5320.20 ...Interstate Transportation

File it for a years time. That way you can travel to that destination as many times as you like in that years time span. You don't have to fill it out for a suppressor but some do just to be safe. Be sure to copy the letter for travel and keep it with you in case you are questioned. I travel with mine all the time and have never had an issue.

Re: ATF Form 5320.20 ...Interstate Transportation

So do you have to be very specific with where you are traveling to and the reason. I am thinking that you would put in the dates to cover the year and then be fairly generic as to the reason and location or does it need to be more specific than that?

I tried, they said no. They will fax it back to you though.

Re: ATF Form 5320.20 ...Interstate Transportation

You will have to put down the dates traveling, reason, and start and end point. They use to require the route you were taking in your travels BUT they want you to just make sure you are going thru NFA friendly states.

The form can be found on their website.

Typical gov SOS it's who you talk to, maybe better to speak with receptionist or janitor.

The people who answer the NFA line are receptionist...

No shit, that's the idea. Ask him or her and get correct answer.

I know this is an old thread but I can tell you they are accepting faxes regularly now. Takes about a week to receive your signed form back via the USPS, at least that has been my experience the last few times.

So much confusion about this form in regard to suppressors. I moved out of state, do i need to submit this form for my can? It reads like it is only concerned with sbr's.
Reason i ask is the sheriff who signed my form 4 in CO was awesome, and the word from my cousin here who is a deputy in the county i reside in says the sheriff here is a dick about nfa items.
