ATF Form 6NIA (Temporary Firearm Import)

Greeting from France,

I'm planning a trip to Texas this summer to experience real freedom, and I’d like to bring one of my bolt. While going through the ATF Form 6NIA, I came across a dilemma: it seems that I must be participating in a competition to qualify under the rules (see below).

I've tried searching online for good ELR/LR ranges in Texas, but I haven't found any upcoming competitions or events. How can I apply to one? I'd love to meet the long-range shooting community there, but it seems difficult to find relevant events even online.

Here’s the part of the form that concerns me:

"Do you possess an invitation and/or registration to attend an upcoming competitive target shooting event or sports or hunting trade show in the United States sponsored by a national, state, or local organization devoted to the collection, competitive use, or other sporting use of firearms?"
If I answer No, it seems I wouldn’t be in compliance with 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(5)(B) and therefore wouldn't qualify for an approved ATF Form 6NIA (5330.3D) temporary import permit. (For additional information, they suggest calling 304-616-4550.)

Does anyone have experience with this process? Any recommendations for competitions or events I could register for?

Thanks in advance!

Your going to tejas, the capitol of high fence hunts. Set yourself up for a hunt and that would qualify you to bring a rifle right?

Seems to me hunting is a prime example of “sporting use “? Call me crazy, but some here in the U.S. have started calling AR15s the “modern sporting rifle” instead of assault rifle.

Someone will be along shortly to correct me

Reporting for duty! 🤠

That’s because it has always, been a “modern sporting rifle”

It was never, an “assault rifle”……

Common sense and common vernacular are two separate worlds.

go ask 80 plus percent of the population to “identify” an ar15 and see what they say

Any public range could be considered an open invitation for the sporting use of firearms.

Most competitions are open to the general public. Sign up for something if you think you must. Your attendance isn’t mandatory.

Maybe a nonresident small game license?

I’m not a lawyer, but this doesn’t seem that complicated coming from the firearms culture of most of the USA.

You are hereby formally invited to come over here and shoot with your rifle. (That might honestly be enough)

I checked the nonresident small game license unfortunately, I don’t hunt.

Well I'm not really sure, but I know for a fact that the ATF is a pain in the neck and IF for anyreason I mislead a document or didn't play by their rules and guidelines I might end up in real bad situation, I'll try to call one of those ELR resort in TX to sort something out with them. And something I still don't know is if I can bring my supressor which is more regulated than France
