ATF questioning for buying diesel parts

I brought a couple of solvent trap / fuel filter suppressors off Aliexpress a few months ago. $16NZ each to my letterbox (about $10.60 US).

Suppressors are essentually unregulated here in NZ, so I thought I'd take a chance.

Had a friend with a lathe do the drilling.

For the muzzle blast it works as well as any of my other similar sized cans. I used Eley Contact 42gr subsonic ammo. I was using a semi-auto, so there was a little bit of action noise but still very quiet.

If you clipped you cones / baffles, it would cut down the amount of sound even better.
Nice rimfire can for $10 and some change.

He's from NZ if you didn't catch that...

Suppressors are over the counter there, so perfectly legal to make one without all the US bullshit forms and $200 stamp. That said, their gun laws are way more fucked up than ours in general.

Given the choice I'd like all my guns unregistered, and some pieces of pipe registered.

Unless I'm mistaken I believe you can posses suppressor parts so long as you don't tap the bore or do anything to alter it before your form 1 comes back. I don't have any form 1 cans so I'm not completely up to par on the legality of said items but I vaguely remember its something to that tune.

However I'm still under the impression that had he purchased all of his truck parts from say napa auto parts online, and purchased the rest of his items from other more reputable sites he probably wouldn't have raised any red flags nor had any officers visit him. Maybe someone in LEO can say otherwise.
