Hey guys, looking for some input about an Athlon Ares BTR I was working with today. The optic is not mine. It is a very good friends who trusted me to get his gear set up and shooting to hopefully scratch the surface in some precision shooting.
First I'll List the components:
Rifle: Bergara Premier HMR 6.5CM
Scope base: NF 20moa
Scope rings: NF
All ammo used were reloads (rifle shot under .5 moa).
The issue I had was the advertised elevation adjustment did not match the actual allowed adjustment when zeroing the rifle (116 yds). The advertised total travel, 24mils/2 = 12mil at optical center + 20moa (approx 6mil) of incline, should leave me with 6 mils of DOWN adjustment or clockwise adjustment.
When zeroing the rifle, I had to bottom out the elevation turret in order to bring my impact to within 1 moa of my intended POI. Unfortunately, I need more down adjustment to get zeroed. After double checking the actual total allotted travel of this optic, it appears I am short 2 mils of down adj, which would give the optic an opportunity to zero the rifle and most importantly not have the elevation turret buried. Is this a common issue or bad luck? I have only experienced this when a zero stop mechanism interfered, but this isn't the case.
Thank you in advance for any feedback/advice/help. I hope to get this system up and running well so I can get this gentleman into the sport.
