Looking for input from anyone who has owned either the Athlon BTR 4x14x44 FFP MIL/MIL illuminated scope or the equivalent Primary Arms illuminated scope, I will only consider FFP, MIL/MIL and illuminated scopes under $400. Yes I am cheap-that's what social security buys.

I put the Athlon on one of my sons rifles, it's about as good as it gets in its price range. The Argos BTR is a noticeable step up in glass quality.
Don't put too much stock in the illumination feature of any scope below $500, you'll be disappointed.

They are very similar, except the reticle in the Talos BTR is fantastic.

It's my favorite cheap scope, I use them for backup scopes and almost always have one in the safe in case another rifle comes home with me somehow.

Though I'd pay $400 for a Argos BTR 6-24x50 with a .2 mil reticle throughout if one were to ever get offered, it is a superior scope compared to the Talos BTR. If you can abide .2's and .5's mixed the Argos BTR is the way to go.

I have the pa 4x14x44 with the acss hud dmr reticle.

It's a good scope ,perfect for an AR or hunting rig. It holds zero, glass is clear thru the mag range.
The turrets are not great. But it's not a scope designed to be dialing around.

The reticle is awesome and has holdovers ranging etc built into it. My reticle is specific to the 223/556 cartridge. That being said I have dialed up and it did okay. Not precision accuracy but it will get you pretty close.

Illumination is not daytime bright. At dawn dusk it's clearly visible but sunny day is a nogo for illumination.

I have been overall happy with it and especially it's pricepoint,I think I spent like 275$

I have no experience with the Athlon but I think their warranty is better.
The PA only has a year warranty with the one I have.

Thank you for the detail information. I appreciate it

Take a few minutes and look at this review posted on another forum.
Doug, what height XTR rings would I use with your Athlon btr 6x24x50 MIL/MIL mounted to a Black Rain Ordnance 224 Valkyrie complete upper? The upper does not have picatinny running the entire length so it will give me more room to mount the 50mm objective lens as close to the barrel axis as possible. I do not like the high mounted scopes. gil

I got the Athlon on a springer pellet gun. It's a great scope for the money and after doing some tracking tests I have nothing to complain about it. I bought mine on armslist for $150 shipped so look around for a good deal. It was brand new and I honestly got way more than I expected.

I would go with 1.4-1.5. Sure you can get your scope objective closer to the barrel but you will still have the issue of getting your cheek bone low enough on the buffer tube to look through the scope.

If you know that you dont have that issue then go lower, but I never could see though the lowest mounted ar scopes.
