Hi guys,
I am looking to tap into the knowledge of the forum. I am putting together a 6.5 PRC and am not sure which optic to go with. The budget will not allow me to go NF. Thanks for your input.

That the gen1 razor 5-20? If so then the cronus every day.

If the gen2 then its a toss up. I like my cronus more than the razors Ive fiddled with.

Just consider the weight, reticle preference, and if you want locking turrets or not. That's kinda what the decision comes down to.

I don't mind locking turrets, for PRS I wouldn't mind the weight of the Razor, and I would rather have an all .2 mil reticle.

I do like 29x, for walking around I like less weight, I definitely like simple zero stops.

Then factor these features against price.

That's me, what about you???

I just sold my RzR Gen-II ebr-7c and went back to my Cronus. I've ran a Cronus for the past 4 years and wanted to try something different. Bought a ZCO last year, then sold it and bought two RzR's, one for my match gun (4-27) and one on my hunting rifle (3-18). Sold one that I used on my match gun and like I said, put the Cronus back on it. I just can't stand locking elevation turrets. Mine were sloppy and wobbled, causing the scope to be in between locked and unlocked, which is pretty much locked and cost me some time on a stage or two.

There are things I like and dislike about both scopes. I just don't understand the need for locking elevation turrets. Wind, sure, as I've rotated the hell out of my Cronus wind knob on barricades and then missed easy targets by a mile. Other than that, no real complaints. Oh, yeah, one is green/brown/gray/something and the other is black.

Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29x56 vs. Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56
I have both. The glass, turrets and controls for the Razor Gen2 are better than the Cronus BTR. The Gen2 is also generally a few hundred dollars more than the BTR. If the additional price of the Razor Gen2 is not going to dent your wallet, i say go for the Razor Gen2. If somehow you can get them both at the same price level, then Razor Gen2 all day long...

At 1000+ yards I suggest the Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29x56.

Very good quality for the money. I like the x29 and the way the turrets click. The zero stop is easy to setup. Settings are very repeatable.

I use the Cronus BTR 4.5-29x56 on my Bergara HMR Pro 6.5 CM out to 1200yards and the picture is good enough to do spotting for my buddies with it.

I also use a Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 for my AR10 based 6.5mm CM and a Vortex HST 6-24x50 on a Mossberg 5.56 Bolt action.

Overall I like the feel and features of the Athlon products.

This has been hashed out quite a few times, but having had both; the Razor gen 2 4.5 to 27 is better for turrets and features imo. Glass was better just a bit also. I like the EBR 7C a lot.

However, they're close in performance with all of that said. You can buy either with confidence.

Cronus is 10oz lighter.
Reticle is a toss up.
I do wish they had capped or locking windage turret - I just put a bit of tape on mine.
Personally I prefer the Cronus but then again, depends on the price. I’d never pay full MSRPs on either.

I have a ebr7 razor on my match gun and the cronus btr (floating cross) on my 22 trainer. I honestly go back and forth between which one I prefer. I sometimes feel like I loose the dot on darker targets, where the cronus floating cross is slightly more visible. I would suggest picking one up from someone here on the px and trying it. Both optics resell very easy if you decide not to keep it.

I literally have the exact same setup (Razor and Cronus on 6.5 and 22) and was wondering why I liked the Cronus better most of the time. Your post explains it perfectly. That said, the razor just appears beefier ... but I have had no issue with either. I kinda prefer the Cronus ... but it's close!
