Recently purchased my first bolt action rifle, a Tikka T3X CTR Stainless in 6.5 Creedmoor. Looking at scope options and I'm considering the Athlon Ares ETR in either the APLR2 or APLR5 MOA reticles. My access is 100-300 yards locally. Looking for opinions on this optic for my rifle/intended range and also on the reticle. I gravitate towards the APLR2 but I'm open to hearing everyone's opinion/experience with them. Also, feel free to suggest other comparable optics you feel are equal/better. I looked at the Ares BTR gen 2 but it seems to me like the ETR is a better option, although I'm open to suggestions for whatever as I realize my intended range is on the shorter side compared to a lot of you guys.

That is what I was thinking and ultimately the conclusion I arrived at. Glad to hear from someone with real world experience though! How do you like your ETR's?

I prefer the center dot of the 2. I shoot 2 ETR's on different rifles and a Argos BTR on another. The Argos has the center cross, whereas the Ares' have center dot. The center dot seems to make my brain focus more on centering that little dot exactly where I want it to hit.

I didn't think I would like the center dot as well as the cross. Figured my brain works better with a vert and hor line, come to find out I really like the center dot. Hate pins on my bow and got a crosshair for it. Makes shooting easier for me and assumed it would be the same with a rifle as i have always had that type of scope, and shy'd away from the center dot. Just got one with the center dot a week or so ago and like it quite a bit

Just in looking at them my brain prefers the dot as well.
