I've got a new rifle build pending and was thinking of straying from the Harris BRS-M and trying out one of the ATLAS models. The rifle is a Mausingfield action in a Manners T4A and Im planning on using it to shoot some matches in the near future and use the FN SPR I've been using as a trainer.

Which model ATLAS would you suggest for this rifle? Is the PSR model really all that necessary or is the standard V8 version a durable enough alternative? Thoughts?

I don't think you'll run into a "durability" issue with any of the Atlas bipods. I only own the PSR model, so couldn't say how much you'd be giving up going to a different model.
Atlas and Harris are totally different animals with their own strengths and advantages, which is why I still use both.

the PSR is a huge improvement over the V8

i ran V8s in the past, after 1-2 yrs of hard match shooting they got pretty loose and sloppy...B&T is awesome at fixing them back up to brand new though

ive been running a PSR now for about 1.5-2 yrs and it still feels almost like brand new, everything is still tight and smooth

my atlas bipods take quite a bit more abuse than most, because i 45 them rearward and reverse load on them on obstacles/barricades A LOT

My V8 was a little loose so I contacted Accu-shot. They were get in communication and turn around. They said they replaced older style buttons and pins. I figured that meant it was less likely to reoccur. Did you have any that were updated loosen up again?

i originally had 2 V8s, both got tuned up...i sold one to a local buddy and the other went on my 28 nosler which i dont shoot very often and doesnt see a high round count so i cant really comment on the durability difference

match rifle has been wearing the PSR since i sold the other V8

Having run the Atlas PSR, Harris, Accu-shot LR10 and Evolution bipod. I can honestly say that the Atlas seems to be the most sturdy of all of them. That said, the Harris has never failed me. I have only had the Atlas for a couple months and am still figure out how I can effectively use it, but overall its definitely superb quality.

I've owned Harris, Sinclair tactical, versapod and now the PSR. It's exactly what I thought it would be. Aesthetically pleasing, highly adjustable, quality and always requireing the bottom tension screw be tightened. I will most likely end up selling next month after the rifle match. Going to give it a little more time to impress me so we'll see

I highly recommend the Atlas, its a great bipod, and once you put it on, your bipod becomes a non-issue until you need really long legs.

I sell them, and use them, and you can get them from B&Y in any color you want as long as its black. If you want one in FDE, I coat a variety of them, and just got a shipment in today!

There's about 200 threads (minimum) on this, so if you need an in depth response it should be easily searchable.

As a quick response: The Harris is faster to deploy as are the spring-loaded legs. The Atlas allows not only a tilt function like the Harris "S" models, but also offers a pan function where you can traverse without having to move the bipod. The adjustments for tension on an Atlas are faster to me, although a pod-loc on a Harris balances it out a bit. Atlas can be easily had with a rail interface, whereas Harris requires adapters of one sort or another. The Atlas also offers the ability to deploy the legs forward or backward in several positions. In terms of materials, ruggedness, etc the edge also goes to Atlas. I've never broken a Harris, but guys have described using their Atlas to pull themselves up onto roofs etc. Not sure I'd ever test a Harris that way.

In short, it's not so much a "better" as a "different". I like the speed on my Harris models on rifles where that may matter. I love the "feel" of an Atlas when I'm behind it and loading into it. When used on a 15+ pound precision rifle, the Atlas feels much more stable. The fact that Kasey, who owns the company is an active member here also gives Atlas quite a few points in my personal book.

After using the Atlas for 2 range trips and a match... I regret waiting so long to switch over. I still own one Harris, but it's relegated to bench and prone only now.

There are a lot more options with the Atlas for positional shooting. I like the PSR.
